Borisov Sets 87's Record, Headlines Stars of the Week

BOSTON, MA -- We've turned things over to the month of November and it feels like the season is flying by in both the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) and the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP).

Below you'll find the 7th set of weekly top performers for the 2022-23 season. The forward and defensemen awards are presented by Verbero Hockey, while the goalie honors come courtesy of Vaughn Custom Sports.

EHL STARS OF THE WEEK #7

The EHL is pleased to announce that Daniel McKiernan (New Hampshire Avalanche), Jack Costabile (Philadelphia Little Flyers), and Jack Boschert (Express Hockey Club) have been named the Top Performers for Week #7.

McKiernan and the Avalanche won both of their games this past week, knocking off the Railers Jr. Hockey Club by the score of 5-4 on Thursday and then beating HC Rhode Island by a 5-2 margin on Saturday. As for the '03 native of Weston, CT, McKiernan set the pace offensively by tallying seven total points over the course of the two games. The seven points included four goals and three assists and nearly doubled his point production for the entire year.

With 16 points in 13 games to date, it's no wonder that McKiernan caught the attention of Suffolk University and has already locked up his NCAA Commitment for the fall of 2023. McKiernan and the Avalanche are currently riding a six-game point streak and they will look to keep things rolling with three games remaining until the November Showcase.

Moving back to the blue line, Costabile and the Little Flyers swept their weekend series with the Philadelphia Hockey Club, picking up back-to-back 5-4 victories this past Friday and Saturday night. As for the '03 native of Devon, PA, Costabile tallied his first three assists of the season increasing his point total up to five for the year.

With the pair of victories Philadelphia improves their record up to 7-6-1 for the season, as they find themselves right in the thick of South Division. Coming up for the Little Flyers, they also have three games between now and the next showcase, two of which put them up against teams they are battling with in their division.

Wrapping things up in goal, Boschert and the Express hit the ice for just a single game this past week, but they made it count by earning a 3-1 victory over the Valley Jr. Warriors. The '02 native of Florissant, MO made 30 saves en route to his 4th victory of the season, as it appears that Boschert's confidence has only grown following his experience at Nazareth College and SUNY Brockport at the 2022 EHL All-Star College Series.

Speaking of tight division battles, Boschert and the Express are in one of their own in the East Division with the difference between first and last place currently just four points at the moment. As for the upcoming schedule for the Express, the calendar includes just a pair of games this Friday and Saturday, to help the team make their final preparations leading up to the league-wide event in Haverhill, MA.

EHLP STARS OF THE WEEK #7

The EHLP is pleased to announce that Ivan Borisov (New Jersey 87's), Daniil Diukin (Pennsylvania Huntsmen), and Matt Cusolito (Valley Jr. Warriors) have been named the Top Performers for Week #7.

Borisov and the 87's won both games this past weekend, outscoring their opponents 15-4 along the way. As for the '03 talented playmaker, the seven-point weekend increased Borisov's point total up to 18 for the season and made him the all-time leading scorer in 87's EHLP history.

With a record of 8-2-3, Borisov and the 87's find themselves in a very tight battle with Diukin and the Huntsmen at the top of the Mid-Atlantic Division. New Jersey is now set for three straight in-state matchups, starting with a game against the Union Thunder this Sunday, and then a home-and-home series with the New Jersey Renegades next weekend.

Speaking of Diukin and the Huntsmen, they followed suit with their own two-game sweep and the fellow '03 also tallied seven points to his credit. Since joining the Huntsmen in mid-October, Diukin has tallied 12 points in just five total games to date, and helped Pennsylvania finish off a terrific month of October.

The Huntsmen currently sit four points ahead of the 87's with a mark of 11-3-1, which is highlighted by a 9-1-1 record in the month of October. After going 1-2-0 at the September Showcase, Pennsylvania is clearly anxious to head up to northern Massachusetts for next weekend's league-wide event.

Similar to Boschert and the Express at the EHL level, Cusolito and the Warriors made their one matchup this past weekend count against the Avalanche. The '04 native of Wrentham, MA stopped 43 of the 44 shots that he faced en route to the victory. The win was Cusolito's first of the season, as Valley continues to jockey with the Seahawks Hockey Club in the middle of the Boston Division.

Following tomorrow's matchup with the Vermont Lumberjacks, Cusolito and the Warriors hit the ice for seven games over the first 18 days of November. Cusolito will look to keep the momentum rolling for his team, leading up to the Thanksgiving break.
