Little Flyers Goalie Set to Join Bantams in the Fall of 2017

ASTON, PA -- Samuel Kany, a goalie for the Philadelphia Little Flyers, has committed to Trinity College for the Fall of 2017. In two seasons with the Little Flyers, the Arizona native racked up 43 total victories, and this season was named the Goalie of the Year in the Premier Division.

“It’s an exciting day when we get the opportunity to announce a player is committing to a college with such a prestigious academic history as Trinity College," said Little Flyers head coach and general manager Rocky Russo. "Trinity has also been a top-flight athletic program, winning the Division III National Championship a few years ago and were national runners up this year. Sam is going to get the opportunity to go in there and play a lot for a great program and college. When Sam came in here last year he stressed to me the importance of going to a high academic school as well as being able to play at a very competitive level. Trinity fits both of those bills; Sam has worked hard for those opportunities both on and off the ice. He has been a great leader for us, he leads by example in the gym, and he does a good job speaking to some of our younger guys when they need it. He is an extremely competitive kid and is a great teammate. I know Trinity is not only getting a great player, but a great person, and on behalf of our entire organization, I wish Sam the best of luck.”

This was a special final season of junior hockey for Kany, who was also named to the South Conference's 1st All-Star Team. While the loss in the EHL Finals was disappointing for Kany and his team, the '96 netminder is looking forward to kicking off his collegiate hockey career this Fall.

“I'd first like to thank my family, they have sacrificed a lot so I can follow my dream, and supported me every step of the way. My parents have been my backbone throughout my hockey career, and I don't know where I'd be without them. Thank you to all of my family for driving to see my games, it means the world. I'd like to thank all of my coaches who have put in the time and effort to get me here today. A special thank you to Coach Russo, for pushing me to another level these past two years. These two years in Philly have been very special to me. My time here gave me the chance to play on the same team with my childhood best friend, Braden Mitchell, in his final year of junior hockey. I have made some great friends here, and teammates who have helped me along the way. Thank you to the Giacobbo family and the entire Little Flyers organization for everything you’ve done for me and the team. Lastly, I would like to say thank you to Coach Greason for giving me this great opportunity. Trinity College is a hockey powerhouse with a winning culture every year. Most importantly it is a fantastic academic opportunity to attend a very prestigious college. I am excited to get on the ice with the Bantams this fall, and return to the national championship.”
