EHL Rookie of the Year Makes Division I Decision

DUNELLEN, NJ -- Matthew Brown, a forward for the New Jersey Rockets, has committed to play Division I hockey at UMass Lowell. In his first season in the EHL, Brown tallied 64 total points in 50 games while helping to lead his team to the Semi-Final round of the playoffs. Along the way, the New Jersey native was also named this season's Rookie of the Year. To qualify for the award, players had to be a '98, ’99, ’00 and in their 1st season in the EHL.

"This was my second year coaching Matt and I'm yet to find a player as dedicated to wanting to get better. He truthfully loves the game, to play and train and his hard work paid off in a very productive first season in an extremely difficult league to play in," said Rockets head coach Sean Cromarty.

The next step for Brown is to the USHL, after getting drafted by the Dubuque Fighting Saints earlier this month. Brown was one of six former EHL players selected in this year's draft, as the USA Hockey Ladder of Development continues to grow with every season.

The EHL would like to congratulate the Rookie of Year on his Division I commitment, and we all look forward to following him in the next steps of his hockey career.
