Slear, Barber, and Collett Earn EHL Weekly Honors

BOSTON, MA -- Another week in the books for the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), and the parity is starting to build. This past week featured all 16 EHL teams in action, and plenty of worthy candidates for our weekly honors.

The EHL is pleased to announce that Jarrett Slear (New Hampshire Avalanche), Andrew Barber (Vermont Lumberjacks), and Brandon Collett (Total Athletics Seahawks) have been named the TSR Hockey Stars of the Week.

As the calendar turns to October, another big week in the EHL starts on Wednesday, with 20 total games on the schedule through Columbus Day (Monday). The next set of TSR Hockey Stars of the Week will be released on Tuesday, October 10th at 9:00am. Catch the #Eshow action all season long on HockeyTV.

Forward - Jarrett Slear (New Hampshire Avalanche)

Led by Slear, the Avalanche rolled to 3 wins this past week. New Hampshire has now won 5 in a row, and owns a 6-1-0 record to start the season. Slear, a '97 and the team's Assistant Captain, tallied 2 goals and 6 assists during play this past week. The native of Pennsylvania now has 12 points in 7 games to start the season, and will look to stay hot as the Avalanche head south to take on the Philadelphia Little Flyers on Saturday and the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers on Sunday.

Defenseman - Andrew Barber (Vermont Lumberjacks)

After losing to the Avalanche on Wednesday, Barber and the Lumberjacks turned things around with a weekend sweep of the New England Wolves. The '97 from New York had a pair of goals in the 7-3 victory on Saturday, and then followed things up with a pair of assists in the 6-2 win on Sunday. Barber's 4 points were his first of the season, and through 5 games he's on a good pace compared to last year when he tallied 23 points in 46 total games for Vermont. Barber will look to continue to lead the way when the Lumberjacks host the Valley Jr. Warriors (Wednesday), New York Applecore (Saturday), and the New York Bobcats Royals (Sunday).

Goaltender - Brandon Collett (Total Athletics Seahawks)

The Seahawks only had one game this past week, but Collett made it count while stopping 56 of the 59 shots that he faced against the Walpole Express. After losing to Walpole in the first matchup of the season, the Seahawks turned the tables on Friday night thanks in large part to their '98 netminder. After dropping his first 2 starts of the season, Collett has turned things around by winning his last 2 starts, and stopping 86 of 89 total shots along the way. The Seahawks now turn the page for a big week that sees them face all three of their Boston Division rivals.

Honorable Mentions - Papesh and Meers

While Barber shined on the blue line this past week for the Lumberjacks, Taylor Papesh led the way for Vermont on offense. The '98 from Illinois tallied 4 goals and 3 assists, and that included the 2nd fastest natural hat-trick of the season (Tier III Hockey).

After being held off the scoresheet on Saturday, Meers bounced back with a pair of goals and pair of assists on Sunday against the Connecticut Oilers. The Philadelphia Revolution have now won 8 straight games to start the season.
