TOTAL GOALS - 1573

Following this past weekend's showcase, a total of 1573 goals have been scored so far this season. The single day with the highest total number of goals was back on November 18th when 14 of the 16 teams were in action. There were 62 total goals scored on that Saturday in the EHL, led by a 15-goal outburst from the Connecticut RoughRiders.

Looking back at the the action this past weekend, there were 75 total goals scored in Walpole, the lowest total of the three showcases so far this season. A key factor behind this stat, points to the six total shutouts from this past weekend, which of course is the highest number for that category so far this year.

EHL = PARITY

Through the first 244 EHL games, the league continues to show a strong sense of parity amongst the 16 teams.

To date, here is a breakdown of all the close games so far this season:

  • 65 Games = 26.64% of games have been decided by 2 goals or less.
  • 68 Games = 27.87% of games have been decided by 1 goal.
  • 21 Games = 8.61% of games have been decided in overtime.
  • 7 Games = 2.87% of games have been decided in a shootout.

With lots of hockey still left to be played, it will be interesting to see how these numbers change as the season progresses. However, if the pattern sticks, it's clear how important every single goal is this season in the EHL.

Looking back at the December Showcase, and 9 of the 16 total games were decided by 2 goals or less. That number jumps to 11 of 16 when counting the games that were decided by just 3 goals or less.

NORTH VS. SOUTH

Last, but not least, we look at the battle between the North Conference and the South Conference. After the first 162 games, the North had a 43-26 advantage over the South, and that included a 19-13 edge in #EHLShowcaseSeries play. Since then however, the South has begun the trim the gap.

  • North Conference - 52
  • South Conference - 37

Through the first 89 cross-conference matchups, the North has made its case as the stronger set of teams so far this season. For the South, there is still plenty of time left to make up the difference, and it starts at the January Showcase in West Chester, PA.

An interesting note shows that in 32 total showcase games played at Rodman Arena, the two conferences were split dead even at 16-16.

UP NEXT: JANUARY SHOWCASE

Following the holiday break, the EHL will return to action with 156 regular season games left to be played. All 16 teams will meet up again on January 19th and 20th at Ice Line Quad Rinks. The next breakdown of the EHL By the Numbers will be released following the January Showcase.

As we get ready for the final showcase of the season, be sure to keep an eye on the each team's top #EHLShowcaseSeries performer:
