December: Ochterbeck -- McCloy -- Henson

BOSTON, MA -- The holiday break is over, with all 16 teams returning to practice this week. As we get set for the final stretch of the regular season, we need to take a look back at the month of December. The final month of the 2017 calendar year included tons of great action across the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), and numerous candidates for the latest set of TSR Hockey Stars of the Month.

The EHL is pleased to announce that Alex Ochterbeck (Philadelphia Little Flyers), Wilson McCloy (New York Applecore), and Alex Henson (Philadelphia Little Flyers) have been named the TSR Hockey Stars of the Month for December.

The Stars of the Month will all receive a $20 TSR Hockey gift certificate.

Scroll down to read about each player's December performances, and remember to catch the #Eshow action all year long on HockeyTV.

Forward - Alex Ochterbeck (Philadelphia Little Flyers)

Ochterbeck finished the month of December as the leading scorer in the EHL, with 24 points in 8 games for the Little Flyers. The impressive final month of the calendar year, surpassed the stellar month of September that saw the native of Texas tally 22 points in 8 games. For the season, Ochterbeck now leads all EHL scorers with 69 points through his first 31 games. With 37 goals already to his name, Ochterbeck has set a new EHL record for goals in a single season. Looking ahead, the single season point title is next on the list, as Ochterbeck finds himself just 7 points back of the record.

  1. Kevin Valenti (2013-14 Cyclones) - 76
  2. Donny Flynn (2016-17 Rockets) - 76
  3. Richard McCartney (2016-17 Revolution) - 74

Philadelphia returns to action on Friday against the Philadelphia Revolution. The Mid-Atlantic Division battle kicks off a busy month that includes 10 total games on the schedule for the Little Flyers.

DEFENSEMAN - Wilson McCloy (New York Applecore)

McCloy and the Applecore went 3-3-1 in 7 games during the month of December, and the '97 racked up 11 total points. The native of North Salem, NY, netted a pair of goals while dishing out 9 assists, and tying for the league-lead in defensive scoring for the month. For the season, McCloy now has 19 points to his name while playing in all 28 games for the Applecore. The 2nd half of the season for the Applecore kicks off with a home-and-home series this weekend against the Connecticut Oilers. Just like Ochterbeck and the Philadelphia Little Flyers, New York's schedule features 10 total games in January. The Applecore begin the month in 2nd place in the Central Division and 5th place in the South Conference.

GOALTENDER - Alex Henson (Philadelphia Little Flyers)

Make it back-to-back months for Henson, as the Little Flyers goalie has earned top honors once again. The 2000 born netminder followed up a 4-0-0 month of November, with a 4-0-0 month of December. Henson is now 8-1-0 since joining the Little Flyers in mid-October. The native of Iowa owns a 1.96 GAA with the Little Flyers, and paired with Brendahn Brawley, has the Little Flyers riding great momentum into the 2nd half of the regular season. Dating back to the beginning of November, Philadelphia has won 14 of its last 16 contests, with Henson in net for over half of the victories. Henson will look to stay hot with the Little Flyers next 8 games all in the Pennsylvania.
