BOSTON, MA -- The playoff push is on in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), as 15 of the 16 teams hit the ice this past weekend. There were a number of solid matchups, and as always, plenty of worthy candidates for our weekly honors.
The EHL is pleased to announce that Chris Peters (Walpole Express), Luca Pisani (Philadelphia Jr. Flyers), and Peter Ciccarelli (Philadelphia Revolution) have been named the TSR Hockey Stars of the Week.
The action continues this week with 17 more games on the docket from Wednesday to Sunday. The next set of TSR Hockey Stars of the Week will be released on Monday, January 15th at 4:00pm. Catch the #Eshow action all season long on HockeyTV.
Peters and the Express picked up right where they left off before the holiday break, as they went north and took home a weekend sweep of the Vermont Lumberjacks. With the pair of wins the Express are now 23-6-3 through 32 games, and have won 6 in a row and 11 of 12 since mid-November. Walpole's leading scorer continued to do just that this past weekend, as he notched 6 total points in the 2 games, including both game-winning goals. For the season Peters now has 56 points to his name, while having dressed in every single matchup for the Express. Dating back to the beginning of this 12-game stretch for Walpole, Peters has been the catalyst behind his team's offense, tallying 21 points in the 11 wins. Walpole has another big weekend ahead of them as they hit the road to take on the New Hampshire Avalanche on Friday, and the Total Athletics Seahawks on Saturday.
Pisani and the Jr. Flyers split their weekend set of games, beating the New York Bobcats Royals on Saturday and then dropping their matchup with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights on Sunday. The 2000 born defenseman was solid on the point in both contests, tallying a pair of assists each day. The 4-assist weekend runs his season total up to 11 for the year. The defending champs are in a battle for the playoffs, as they begin a new week in 4th place in the Mid-Atlantic Division and 6th place overall in the South Conference. Philadelphia currently owns a 2-point cushion over the Connecticut Oilers for the last spot in the playoffs. With 20 games remaining, every point is critical, as the Jr. Flyers get set to take on the Philadelphia Little Flyers on Wednesday, and then the Vermont Lumberjacks and New England Wolves on Saturday and Sunday.
Ciccarelli and the Revolution won their only game of the week, and the '97 netminder was between the pipes as his team knocked off the Philadelphia Little Flyers by the score of 6-1 on Friday. The native of Chelmsford, MA stopped 27 of the 28 shots he faced while earning his 7th victory of the season. Ciccarelli is now 7-1-1 for the season, to go along with a stellar 1.98 GAA. The Revolution continue to lead the entire EHL with 59 total points, and they will return to action next with another matchup against the Little Flyers on January 16th.
This week, the EHL would like to recognize three players with honorable mentions.
Jake Fuss and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights won their only game this past weekend, as they beat the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers by the score of 5-2 on Sunday. The Knights' top scorer added a pair of goals and an assist to his season totals, running his points up to 53 for the year.
Just like his teammate Chris Peters, Larry Niland also found the back of the net 4 times all while with dishing out a pair of assists for the Walpole Express. Niland is in the middle of a 6-game scoring streak, in which he has tallied 14 total points.
Last, but not least, the New York Applecore swept their home-and-home series with the Connecticut Oilers and Benjamin Allard-Robitaille was the man between the pipes on Saturday. The '99 netminder made 33 saves on the way to his 3rd win of the season.
