Savel, Johnson, and Henson Earn EHL Weekly Honors

BOSTON, MA -- The Eastern Hockey League (EHL) put together their fourth and final showcase of the season this past weekend, with all 16 teams in action. With every organization hitting the ice, it brought many of worthy candidates for our weekly honors. 

The EHL is pleased to announce that Joey Savel (Philadelphia Little Flyers), Austin Johnson (Total Athletics Seahawks), and Alex Henson (Philadelphia Little Flyers) have been named the TSR Hockey Stars of the Week.

The week ahead features a total of 17 games from Tuesday to Sunday. The next set of TSR Hockey Stars of the Week will be released on Monday, January 29th at 4:00pm. Catch the #Eshow action all season long on HockeyTV.


FORWARD - Joey Savel (Philadelphia Little Flyers)

Savel and the Little Flyers won all 3 of their games this past weekend with the '97 forward leading the way on offense with 2 goals and 6 assists (8 points). The native of Sterling Heights, MI began the weekend with a pair of assists in his team's 4-1 win over the Walpole Express on Friday. Savel then led the way with a pair of goals and another assist on day #2 of the January Showcase, in his team’s 5-3 win against the Total Athletics Seahawks on Saturday. The forward finished the weekend off by recording 3 assists in the Little Flyers 6-0 shutout win against the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers on Sunday. Savel leads all players on the Little Flyers in scroing this season with a stellar 73 points. The Little Flyers will look to stay hot this weekend with a pair of games on the road against the Connecticut RoughRiders.


DEFENSEMAN - Austin Johnson (Total Athletic Seahawks)

Johnson and the Seahawks split both of their games this past weekend, as they beat the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers on Friday and then fell to the Philadelphia Little Flyers on Saturday. The Pawling, NY native led the way against the Jr. Flyers with a goal and 2 assists in his team's 3-1 win. The '97 then recorded a goal in the loss on Saturday, to give him a total of 4 points for January Showcase. Johnson leads all defensemen on the Seahawks in scoring this season with 16 points. The Seahawks will return to work this weekend as they host the Vermont Lumberjacks on Friday.


Goaltender - Alex Henson (Philadelphia Little Flyers)

The awards keep on coming for Henson, as the 2000 born netminder has now earned back-to-back weekly honors. The Des Moines, IA native stopped 36 out of 37 shots in his team’s 4-1 win against the Walpole Express on Friday and then stopped all 26 shots he faced in a 6-0 shutout victory against the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers on Sunday. Since joining the Little Flyers in mid-October, Henson is now a stellar 12-1-0 with a 1.64 GAA and a .925 save percentage. Along with the back-to-back weekly honors, Henson is also the 2-time reigning Goalie of the Month in the EHL (November Stars of the Month -- December Stars of the Month).


HONORABLE MENTIONS - Mickey, LeClair, and Meers

The EHL would also like to recognize a trio of honorable mentions starting with Nate Mickey of the Philadelphia Little Flyers. The '98 racked up 4 goals and 2 assists this past weekend, including a hat-trick against the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers on Sunday. 

Last week's TSR Hockey Forward of the Week, Calvin LeClair, had another strong week for the New Hampshire Avalanche. The Pennsylvania native recorded a hat-trick in his team's 6-3 win against the Connecticut Oilers on Friday and added 3 more points the next day against the New York Bobcats Royals. Leading into the weekend, LeClair also had a goal and an assist against the Vermont Lumberjacks this past Tuesday.

Last but not least, Justin Meers scored 4 goals in the Philadelphia Revolution's 5-3 win on Saturday against the Boston Jr. Rangers. The '98 forward now has 38 points in 34 games so far this season.
