Avalanche Forward Set to Join Roos in the Fall of 2018

HOOKSETT, NH -- Zachary Ahola, a forward for the New Hampshire Avalanche, has committed to SUNY Canton for the Fall of 2018. The '97 is in his first season in the EHL, and has tallied 30 points in 37 games to date.

"Zach has established himself as a good power forward and has really worked on his game away from the puck," said Avalanche head coach and general manager Chris Cerrella. "He is big, strong, and can skate well; that is going to translate really well at the Division III level. I think he is going to be an immediate impact player for SUNY Canton next season. I am very proud of him and look forward to seeing him succeed at the college hockey level."

Cerrella mentioned Ahola's size and strength, which have been key factors to the 22 assists he's racked up this season. Recently, the native of Hancock, MI has been filling up the scoresheet, as he rides a five-game point streak into tonight's matchup with the Vermont Lumberjacks. Ahola knows how valuable this year in the EHL has been, and took some time to reflect on his decision.

"I am very excited to be a part of the Jr. Avs program and how well we are doing this season," said Ahola. "It has brought us team and individual successes and that is what matters most. I am very excited to head to Canton, NY and be a part of SUNY Canton on and off the ice. I had a great feeling about their program and staff, and really enjoyed my campus visit. I want to thank Coach Mario Martiniello and the Jr. Avs organization for giving me a great opportunity to play Junior Hockey in the EHL. I also want to thank Coach Cerrella for helping me develop this season and achieve my goal of playing NCAA College Hockey. I could not have done this without my teammates, as they have been great this season. I have had a ton of fun and can't wait to win at the end with all of them. Last, but not least, I want to thank my family for everything they have done to give me the opportunity to play hockey for most of my life. I am very excited to join the Roos next season."
