Little Flyers All-Star Forward Set to Join Pioneers this Fall

ASTON, PA -- Joey Savel, a forward for the Philadelphia Little Flyers, has committed to Utica College for the Fall of 2018. Savel just broke the EHL record for points in a single regular season, as he finished this year with 96 points to his name. In total, the '97 from Michigan has tallied 161 points in 108 career EHL games to date.

"We are very proud of Joey on his commitment to Utica,” said Little Flyers head coach and general manager George Lewis. "Joey has worked very hard for this and it is well deserved. As one of our captains and a two-year player in Philly he's given us a lot and we are very grateful for the work he has put in for our program. Obviously being the leading scorer in the league is the first thing you think when you hear his name, but he he's become a lot more than that. Utica is getting a quality young man who will hep their program tremendously."

Along with setting the record for points in a single regular season, Savel also broke the assist mark with 65 helpers this year. The '97 will feel comfortable from the moment he arrives on the Utica campus, as the Pioneers' roster already includes Little Flyers Alumni Tyler Pietrowski and Jamie Bucell. Joining Savel in the 2018 freshmen class will also be Cameron Bartkoski, who was with the Little Flyers this past season. It's been a fantastic junior career for the Savel, as he also was a part of the EHL All-Star Team that took on the UMass Boston Beacons back in October. Savel took some time to reflect and give thanks.

"I want to thank everyone who has helped me along the way especially my parents and all of the sacrifices they went through to get me to this point," said Savel. "I'd like to thank all of my coaches that I've had throughout the years including Chris Coury, Brad Jones, and Rocky Russo. I'd also like to especially thank Coaches George Lewis, Mark Catron, and Mike Narrigan from the Little Flyers. Thank you to the Giacobbo Family and the entire Little Flyers organization for the past two seasons. Lastly, I'd like to thank all my teammates that I've played with, I wouldn't be anywhere without them. I'm extremely excited to be joining the Pioneers next year, I'm also very thankful to Coach Heenan and Coach Educate for giving me this wonderful opportunity at such a great school."
