Regular Season Champs Ready for the Playoffs

ASTON, PA -- The 2019 Eastern Hockey League (EHL) Playoffs are set to begin this Friday night at 6:30pm. It is still very unknown who the Philadelphia Little Flyers will draw following their First Round bye. The Little Flyers are feeling confident, but they also know that the pressure is on this postseason. After finishing the year with the best regular season record in league history (40-3-1), the Little Flyers are looking to become the first team to ever win both the Regular Season Championship and Postseason Championship in the same year.

Looking at this year's team, and they are led first and foremost by Brendahn Brawley between the pipes. The '98 native of Morton, PA owned a record of 24-3-1 to go along with a 1.77 GAA and .940 save percentage. Brawley's eight shutouts also lead the league in that category.

Moving up to the blue line, and the defensive pairing of Zikmund Mroz and Nick Daluisio each shattered the scoring mark set for a defenseman in a single season. Mroz finished the year with 72 points (21 goals, 51 assists), while Daluisio tallied 62 points (12 goals, 50 assists). Prior to this season, the previous record had been set at 44 total points. It's safe to say that Mroz and Daluisio set the new marks to beat for years to come.

Wrapping things up with the forwards, and the Little Flyers lineup contains a plethora of scorers that are dangerous every time they step foot on the ice. Some names to keep an eye on this postseason include Austin MasterBryce WitmanKyle Scott, and Mikey Giampapa, but that's only naming a few players on a team that scored a league-leading 246 goals in the regular season.

Speaking of leading the league, to go along with the top mark for goals scored, the Little Flyers also set the bar in the following categories:

  • Goals Per Game -- 5.57
  • Goals Against Per Game -- 1.64
  • Penalty Kill Percentage -- 90.8%

Despite all the numbers and accomplishments from the year so far, the Little Flyers know exactly what lies ahead in the next three weeks. Step one is making it to Providence, and step two is winning it all. Anything short of that will be a disappointment.

Be sure to check back tomorrow for a full preview of the 2019 EHL Playoffs.
