87s Captain Set to Join Valiants this Fall

MIDDLETOWN, NJ -- Jack McDonough, a forward for the New Jersey 87s, has committed to Manhattanville College for the fall of 2019.

The '98 native of Doylestown, PA is in his second season in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), and his first with the 87s. To date, McDonough has tallied 48 points in 76 career games in the EHL.

"He's had a tremendous amount of growth over the season," said 87s head coach and general manager Adam Houli. "He was a guy that we traded for when we started the EHL team because we needed a veteran presence. He wasn't named captain until a month ago, but led all year. He's strong off the ice, he holds guys to high standards, and on the ice he's a commander out there. Frankly the commitment is well deserved, it's something we expected, and we're glad it came to fruition."

As Houli mentioned, McDonough brings a veteran presence to the EHL, after spending the 2017-18 season with the New Hampshire Avalanche. McDonough played a key role on last year's Avalanche team that ended their first year, with their first title. McDonough is with another first year team this season, and he's very grateful for everything that he's gained from the experience.

"It's honestly amazing to finally commit to an NCAA program," said McDonough. "It's really big for me and my family, and I couldn't be more excited. I visited the campus and it was beautiful. I love the team culture and the way they play. This year has been surreal, and I have to give credit where credit is due, Coach Houli and Coach Kiernan have really created a culture here that is just built for success; they give us every resource possible to develop and get to that next level."

With this weight now off of his shoulders, McDonough can turn his full attention towards the upcoming EHL Playoffs. New Jersey is the #2 seed in the Mid-Atlantic Conference, and while they await to learn who their Second Round opponent is, McDonough and his teammates are preparing with the hopes of making it to Providence. If the 87s can win the 2019 title, it would make McDonough just the the second player in EHL history with multiple league championships.
