Seahawks Forward Set to Join Red Dragons this Fall

DENNIS, MA -- Trevor Veneklase, a forward for the Seahawks Hockey Club, has committed to SUNY Cortland for the fall of 2019.

The '98 native of Brentwood, TN recently finished his first and only season in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), tallying 52 points (22 goals, 30 assists) in 48 total games for the Seahawks.

"Trevor is a big time player, who plays a heavy 200-foot game, but has the ability to be very crafty; and within 8 feet from the net, he always has a chance to score," said Seahawks head coach and general manager Bill Zaniboni. "He is a very mature young man off of the ice, and was a big asset to our community, but on the ice Trevor has a great competitive edge that prepares him to bring his best daily. I am excited to see Trevor develop at the college level and I know the staff will be impressed when Trevor gets on campus. I am really proud of Trevor and excited for his family."

Veneklase is the 21st commit for the Seahawks, in just two seasons in the EHL. Overall, the the veteran forward is very happy with his decision to end his junior hockey career with Coach Zaniboni, and he took some time to show his appreciation.

"I'm excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic careers at SUNY Cortland," said Veneklase. "I want to thank my family, coaches, and teammates for all the support along the way. Playing for the Seahawks organization helped me mature and improve my game, both on and off the ice. I would also like to thank Coach Zaniboni for helping prepare me for this next step and giving me the opportunity to play NCAA hockey. I can't thank my parents enough for all they have sacrificed throughout these years."

Veneklase will be joined by Giancarlo Romano (Connecticut RoughRiders) and Jake Ballagh (New Hampshire Avalanche) this fall, as the three players make up a strong class of incoming EHL freshmen.
