Former Express Coach Joins Crusaders Staff

WORCESTER, MA -- After five seasons serving as the head coach of the Walpole Express, Jon Lounbury has advanced on to join the coaching staff at the College of the Holy Cross. In his time in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), Lounsbury helped move 97 players onto NCAA hockey programs.

In 5 seasons with the Express, Lounsbury helped move 97 players onto NCAA hockey programs at the Division I, II, and III levels.

Year in, and year out, the Express always had one of the top contending teams in the league, due in large part to their leader behind the bench. Lounsbury's dedication to his players helped him stand out in the EHL, and is a big reason why David Berard (Head Coach of Holy Cross) didn't think twice about bringing in a assistant.

"I am excited to welcome Jon Lounsbury to our coaching staff for the upcoming season,” said Berard on GoHolyCross.com. “Jon brings a wealth of coaching experience to our program, not only as a head coach at the junior and prep school levels, but also as a skill development coach at the NHL and AHL levels. As we continue to look for new and innovative ways to make our players better, Jon will be at the forefront of that development process. He is an outstanding communicator and teacher of the game. He is a great addition to our staff. We look forward to the start of the season."

As Berard mentioned, Lounsbury has received accolades for his skill development, which on its own grew during his time in the EHL.

"My time in the EHL was very special," said Lounsbury. "The daily preparation of going up against high level coaches, allowed me to truly grow as an individual. Rob Barletta and the Walpole Express allowed me to continue to develop my weaknesses as a coach, by allowing me to not only coach, but to run the day to day operations as the General Manager. More importantly, you’re only as good as your supporting cast. I’ve been lucky to work alongside assistant coaches who've moved up the ranks quickly. From Clay Adams [Lincoln Stars - USHL -- Bentley University -- Arizona Coyotes], to Cos Polino [Buffalo State], and everyone else that I worked with, thank you for everything you did for me and the program."

The EHL would like to congratulate Jon on his new position, and wish him the best of luck as he continues on at the Division I level.
