Seahawks Defenseman Headlines Top Performers

BOSTON, MA -- Hockey season has now officially begun, as all 32 teams combined between the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) and the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP), have played at least a single game. While it's still very early in the season, the #Eshow has already seen a number of top performances from players all across the league. Below you will find the selections for our second set of Warrior Hockey Stars of the Week in the EHL and the EHLP.

EHL STARS OF THE WEEK #2

As the second full week of play in the EHL comes to a close, all 19 teams have officially begun their respective 2019-20 campaigns. This past week in particular featured 18 games in the EHL, and a number of intriguing matchups. As is always the case, there were plenty of worthy candidates for our weekly honors.

The EHL is pleased to announce that Austin Marini (Vermont Lumberjacks), CJ Kline (Seahawks Hockey Club), and Tobias Falkenstedt (Walpole Express) have been named the Warrior Hockey Stars of the Week.

Marini and the Lumberjacks hosted the East Coast Wizards and Valley Jr. Warriors for a combined total of three games this past week, and they earned at least a point in every contest. Marini was able to shine in the 3rd period against the Wizards scoring the first goal of the frame, and adding in an assist as well. The ’99 forward then racked up a pair of goals and a pair of assists in the weekend set of games against the Warriors. Overall, the native of Hyde Park, MA notched three goals and three assists as the Lumberjacks went 2-0-1.

Vermont will look to bounce back from Sunday’s shootout loss to the Warriors as they head to Walpole this weekend to take on the Express on Saturday night, followed by their showcase matchups with the Philadelphia Revolution and Team Maryland.

Kline and the Seahawks had a busy week as well, with matchups against the Warriors (Wednesday), Connecticut Chiefs (Friday), Express (Saturday), and New England Wolves (Monday). After dropping the season opener, Kline helped lead the way to three straight victories for the Seahawks.

The 6'5 defenseman made his presence known on Friday night, tallying a hat-trick against the Chiefs. Then on Monday, the native of Woodbridge, VA added another goal to his name, and this time it came in a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory.

The week ahead for the the Seahawks doesn't get any easier, as they face-off with the New Hampshire Avalanche on Thursday, the Boston Jr. Rangers on Friday, and then the New York Applecore and Wolves at the first event of the EHL Showcase Series.

Wrapping things up between the pipes, Falkenstedt and the Express split their pair of games this past week. Despite ending the week on a sour note against the Seahawks, the 2000-born native of Sweden did everything he could in goal.

In two games, Falkenstedt turned aside 54 of the 56 shots he faced, giving the goaltender a 1.00 GAA, a .964 save percentage, and his first shutout of the season, which came on Thursday against the Seacoast Spartans.

As mentioned above, the week ahead includes a matchup for the Express against the Lumberjacks, as well as the Revolution at the first showcase of the season.

EHLP STARS OF THE WEEK #2

The 2019-20 EHLP season is off and running, as all 13 teams are now officially underway, and this past week featured nine total games between the New England Conference and the Mid-Atlantic Conference. Just like the EHL, there were many players worthy of the latest set of weekly honors.

The EHLP is pleased to announce that Garrison Shepard (Walpole Express), David Hassell (New Hampshire Avalanche), and Nathan Burlew (New Hampshire Avalanche) have been named the Warrior Hockey of the Week.

Shepard and the Express were able to complete a weekend sweep over the Connecticut Chiefs this past Saturday and Sunday, earning victories by scores of 5-0 and 4-1.

Shepard scored four of the five goals for the Express, including the game winner on Saturday, and then the '01 forward kept the momentum going with a pair of goals on Sunday. Shepard is now tied for the league-lead in goals (6), with last week’s top forward, Johnny Malandruccolo (Boston Jr. Rangers).

The Avalanche started off their inaugural season in the EHLP with a pair of wins over the defending EHLP Champions, the New England Wolves, and the two-time Champions, Boston Jr. Rangers.

Combined between the two games, Burlew was able to fend away 47 of the 50 shots he faced, bringing his GAA to 1.50 to start the year, and racking up a save percentage of .940.

In addition to the strong play of Burlew between the pipes, Hassell was rock solid on the back end for the Avalanche. Hassell led all EHLP defensemen with three points this past week, as he notched a trio of assists in the two games. Now ranked inside the #3 in the EHLP Power Rankings, the target will presumably grow in a similar fashion to the EHL team.
