Team EHL Ties Falcons 1-1

FITCHBURG, MA -- The 2019 EHL All-Star Team took on the Fitchburg State Falcons in the first of three All-Star matchups this week.

Team EHL vs. FItchburg State

Team EHL faced-off against Fitchburg State this evening, marking the first game of the 2019 EHL All-Star Week. Going into this season, the Falcons currently have nine EHL alumni on their roster.

Dean Zerby (Philadelphia Revolution 2014-2016)

Anton Metelev (Boston Jr. Rangers 2018-2019)

Chris Mattone (Vermont Lumberjacks/New England Wolves 2015-2018)

All-Star Game 2019

1st Period

The Falcons struck first and took a 1-0 lead with a shot from the top of the circle that beat Boston Jr. Rangers goaltender, Billy Girard, high blocker side with just under three minutes remaining in the 1st period. Jr. Rangers and alum, Anton Metelev who is in his first year at Fitchburg State, collected an assist on the Falcons goal. Team EHL had a handful of chances in frame as they outshot the Falcons 13-9, but trailed 1-0 going into the 1st intermission.

2nd Period

Team EHL started the 2nd period on the man advantage and didn't take long to convert as New Hampshire Avalanche defensemen, Jacob Iiba, one-timed a pass through the crease from New Jersey 87s forward, Andrew Maynard, to knot the game up at 1-1. Shots after the 2nd period were 20-19 in favor of the Falcons.

3rd Period/Overtime

Both goaltenders stood tall in the 3rd period as Girard turned away 14 shots alone in the frame. Team Maryland forward, Tristan Mock, hit the post on a breakaway chance in the final 2 minutes of the contest and the game headed into extra time. 

After a scoreless 5 minute overtime period, the game ended in a 1-1 tie. Girard stood tall between the pipes for Team EHL, stopping 34 shots. 

"Tonight's game was awesome," said Team EHL head coach, Chris Cerella, "It was fast paced and it was our first tie against a NCAA Division III college hockey team so for us as a league, it was a success." 

Team EHL will be back in action tomorrow night against Salem State at Rockett Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 5:00pm.
