Just like last night, Team EHL fell behind first as the Vikings converted on their first power-play chance of the game and took an early 1-0 lead.
Walpole Express forward Jona Hildreth tipped in a shot from Boston Jr. Rangers defensemen, Mitch Haight, with 11:21 left in the frame to knot up the game at 1-1. North Carolina Golden Bear's forward Austin Finch had the 2nd assist on the goal.
Around the seven-minute mark of the period, Tristan Mock of Team Maryland, buried home a rebound chance from the slot to give the EHL the 2-1 advantage. Finch collected his 2nd assist of the game on the goal.
Total shots after the 1st period were 10-9 in favor of Team EHL.
Walpole Express goaltender, Tobias Falkenstedt, entered the crease to start the 3rd period for his first action of the week. Just before the halfway point of the frame, George Vonakis of the Railers Jr. Hockey Club, sent Tristan Mock on a breakaway where he found the back of the net for the 2nd time of the game and gave Team EHL a commanding 4-1 lead.
The Vermont Lumberjacks then teamed up on a goal late to put the EHL's first ever win against a Division III opponent out of reach, as Logan Discanio beat the Vikings goalie high blocker side to make it a 5-1 game. Lumberjack teammates Cory Doney and Austin Marini collected assists on the tally. The final shot count from the game was 37-24 in favor of Team EHL.
Team EHL will be back in action tomorrow against UMass Boston at the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink. Puck drop is scheduled for 4:00pm.
