Team EHL Defeats Vikings 5-1

SALEM, MA -- Coming off an solid tie with Fitchburg State, the 2019 EHL All-Star Team took on the Salem State Vikings.

Team EHL vs. Salem State

Team EHL faced-off against Salem State this evening, marking the second game of the 2019 EHL All-Star Weekend. Going into this season, the Vikings currently have six EHL alumni on their roster.

Luke Pepin - (East Coast Wizards 2017-2019)

Josh Grasso - (Walpole Express 2015-2018)

Ryan Tierney - (Boston Jr. Rangers/New England Wolves 2015-2018)

All-Star Game 2019

1ST PERIOD

Just like last night, Team EHL fell behind first as the Vikings converted on their first power-play chance of the game and took an early 1-0 lead.

Walpole Express forward Jona Hildreth tipped in a shot from Boston Jr. Rangers defensemen, Mitch Haight, with 11:21 left in the frame to knot up the game at 1-1. North Carolina Golden Bear's forward Austin Finch had the 2nd assist on the goal. 

Around the seven-minute mark of the period, Tristan Mock of Team Maryland, buried home a rebound chance from the slot to give the EHL the 2-1 advantage. Finch collected his 2nd assist of the game on the goal. 

Just a couple minutes after the Mock goal, the Seahawks Hockey Club connected on another Team EHL goal, as Patrick O'Neil tipped in a shot from CJ Kline to put increase the lead up to 3-1.

Total shots after the 1st period were 10-9 in favor of Team EHL.

2nd PERIOD

Both goaltenders stood tall in the scoreless 2nd period. Team EHL outshot the Vikings in the frame 13-7, and held a 23-17 total shot advantage through two periods. Philadelphia Jr. Flyers goalie, Sean Dynan, made 16 saves through 40 minutes and the game remained 3-1 going into the 3rd period.

3rd Period

Walpole Express goaltender, Tobias Falkenstedt, entered the crease to start the 3rd period for his first action of the week. Just before the halfway point of the frame, George Vonakis of the Railers Jr. Hockey Club, sent Tristan Mock on a breakaway where he found the back of the net for the 2nd time of the game and gave Team EHL a commanding 4-1 lead. 

The Vermont Lumberjacks then teamed up on a goal late to put the EHL's first ever win against a Division III opponent out of reach, as Logan Discanio beat the Vikings goalie high blocker side to make it a 5-1 game. Lumberjack teammates Cory Doney and Austin Marini collected assists on the tally. The final shot count from the game was 37-24 in favor of Team EHL. 

Team EHL will be back in action tomorrow against UMass Boston at the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink. Puck drop is scheduled for 4:00pm.
