#Eshow Sweeps NE10 and MASCAC Weekly Honors

BOSTON, MA -- After kicking off the season with five league alumni claiming weekly honors at the next level, the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) repeated the feat once again this past week. Along with another five league alums claiming Division II/III awards, the EHL also saw an alumni earn an honor from the Atlantic Hockey Association (Division I).

NE-10

George Thurston, an alumnus of the Valley Jr. Warriors, was named both the Player of the Week and the Rookie of the Week in the Northeast-10 (NE10). The '98 native of Plymouth, MA is a freshmen at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU), and he played a huge role in his team's 5-1 victory over Franklin Pierce University (FPU) last Friday night.

Thurston scored the first four goals of the contest, three of which came on the power-play, as the Penmen began the defense of their 2018-19 NE10 Championship with a convincing win over the Ravens.

Between the pipes that night was Kurt Gutting, an alumnus of the New England Wolves, and the 2018-19 Goaltender of the Year in the NE-10. The '96 native of Weymouth, MA began the 2019-20 campaign with a 33-save performance against FPU, and thus earned himself NE10 Goalie of the Week honors.

Just like in the NE10, the EHL also saw a set of alumni claim all three honors (Player of the Week, Goaltender of the Week, and Rookie of the Week) in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC).

Starting with the Player of the Week award, Matthew Manning played a huge role on the 2016-17 EHL Champions, the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers. Now this past week for Worcester State University (WSU), Manning scored two goals in the Lancers’ conference-opening victory over Westfield State University. The first goal of the night tied the scored in the 2nd period, and then Manning's next tally stood up as the eventual game-winner, in a 4-2 victory for WSU. The '96 native of Novi, MI is a captain for the Lancers this season, and will surely be relied on all season long.

Moving along, both the Goaltender of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors were given out to members of the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs.

Chris Stangarone, a '97 sophomore from White Plains, NY, turned aside 27 of the 28 shots he faced in the Corsairs conference-opener against Framingham State University. The alumnus of the Vermont Lumberjacks, was an anchor between the pipes, as his team cruised to a 8-1 victory.

On the offensive side of the 8-1 win, John Grealish, an alumnus of the Boston Jr. Rangers, scored a pair of goals. The '98 native of Bakersfield, CA spent a trio of seasons developing in the EHL, including a year at the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP) level.

In his MASCAC debut, Grealish created a highlight he will remember forever, scoring one of his two tallies on a penalty shot. The Rookie of the Week will look to build off the momentum of the his first taste of the Division III level.

Wrapping things up in the AHA, Alex Peterson spent the 2016-17 campaign with the Philadelphia Little Flyers, before advancing on to play a pair of seasons for the Amarillo Bulls in the North American Hockey League (NAHL).

Now, a freshman at The College of the Holy Cross, Peterson scored both goals for the Crusaders, in their 2-1 victory over Sacred Heart University on November 7th. The career-high performance earned Peterson the Rookie of the Week honors from the AHA.
