9 Players Receive Weekly Honors

BOSTON, MA -- We can check off another two weeks in the hockey season, and add six more alumni from the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) and the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP) to the list of players who've received recognition at the next level.

CCC

In each of the past two weeks, the Players of the Week in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), have come from the EHL.

On November 18th, Daniel Eruzione of Salve Regina University, earned the honor after tallying four points in a weekend sweep of Western New England (WNE). Looking back on Eruzione's single season in the EHL, and in 46 total games during the 2015-16 season, the '96 native of Winthrop, MA tallied 47 points for the Walpole Express.

The following year (2016-17), Eruzione spent the season with the New Jersey Titans of the North American Hockey League (NAHL). The scoring touch carried right over to the NA, where he tallied 58 points in 63 total games.

Now, in his junior year at Salve Regina, Eruzione has notched 85 points in 62 collegiate games to date.

Fast-forward to yesterday afternoon, and Alex Ochterbeck, an alumnus of the Philadelphia Little Flyers, earned his 2nd CCC Player of the Week honor of the season. The '97 native of Dallas, TX led the Colonels of Curry College to a weekend sweep of their home-and-home series with Nichols College. In total, Ochterbeck tallied two goals, three assists, and a plus-four rating over the weekend.

The talented scorer, ranks 4th in EHL history with 57 career goals, and that includes 43 during the 2017-18 season. The 43-mark is tied with Devin Panzeca (East Coast Wizards) for the EHL regular season record.

NE-10

The accolades keep coming for George Thurston, an alumnus of the Valley Jr. Warriors and a freshman at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU). To date this season, Thurston has won four weekly honors from the Northeast-10 (NE10). Included in those awards is a single Player of the Week honor, along with three straight Rookie of the Year honors. When combined with Matt Schreiner, an alumnus of the Walpole Express and a freshman at Saint Michael's College, the EHL has won the NE-10's Rookie of the Year award in each of the first four weeks of the season.

All while Thurston has been pacing the offense for SNHU, Kurt Gutting has been holding things down between the pipes. The alumnus of the New England Wolves and the 2018-19 Goaltender of the Year in the NE-10, has been named the Goalie of the Week in two of the four weeks to date.

So far this season, Gutting owns a mark of 4-1-0 in his first four starts, which includes a perfect 4-0-0 record in conference play. SNHU is off to a great start at 6-1-0, thanks in large part to the play of both Thurston and Gutting.

MASCAC

Back on November 18th, Ryan Hoff, an alumnus of the Connecticut Chiefs, was named the Goalie of the Week in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC).

The '99 native of Brockton, MA is a sophomore at Worcester State University (WSU), after joining the Lancers for the 2nd half of the 2018-19 season.

In 11 career starts at WSU, Hoff owns a record of 6-3-1 to go along with a 2.49 GAA and a .920 save percentage.

UCHC

Combined over the last two weeks, an EHL alum has won each of the three weekly awards in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC).

Starting with the Player of the Week award, Donny Flynn tallied 128 career points during his time in the EHL, and then tacked on an additional 10 points during postseason play.

The sophomore at Wilkes University found the back of the net five times this past week, as the Colonels knocked off King's College and Albertus Magnus College on consecutive days.

As for the Goalie of the Week award, Mac Vail is an alumnus of the Connecticut RoughRiders and Philadelphia Jr. Flyers, spending two full seasons in the EHL (2015-17). After being traded to the Jr. Flyers in the January of 2017, Vail at one point won 17 straight games for Philadelphia. Overall, Vail posted a record of 28-11-1 that season, to go along with a 1.98 GAA and .919 save percentage, en route to an EHL Championship.

Now a junior at Manhattanville College, Vail was named the top goalie in the UCHC after a 52-save performance in a 3-2 victory over Elmira College. It's worth noting that half of his saves (26) on November 16th, came in the 2nd period alone.

Wrapping things up with the Rookie of the Year award, which was claimed this past week by Austin Master, a freshman at Stevenson University. The '98 native of Broomall, PA dished out four assists to help lead the Mustangs to a 2-0-0 week.

Looking back on Master's single season with the Philadelphia Little Flyers, and his play-making ability was on full display throughout the 2018-19 campaign, tallying 80 points (33 goals, 47 assists) in 49 total games.

NESCAC

Last, but not least, Evan Ruschil is an alumnus of the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP), from back in the 2016-17 season. Back on November 16th, Ruschil made 40 saves in his first collegiate start for Williams College, a 5-1 victory over Bowdoin College. The top performance helped Ruschil earn Player of the Week honors in opening week of the season in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC).
