Rangers Forward Set to Join Teammate this Fall

TEWKSBURY, MA -- Jake Blackwell, a forward for the Boston Jr. Rangers, has committed to SUNY Fredonia for the fall of 2020.

The '99 native of Hamden, CT is in his second season in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), and first full year with the Rangers. Through 65 career games in the EHL, Blackwell has scored 24 goals and dished out 39 assists.

"We are excited for Jake's commitment to Fredonia,” said Rangers head coach and general manager Rich DeCaprio, “The last 2 seasons he has really matured as a player, both on and off the ice. His slick play and IQ will be very beneficial for Coach Meredith and the Blue Devils! Congrats Blackie!"

When Blackwell arrives on campus at Fredonia, he will enjoy the comfort of already knowing one of his teammates. Andrew Keith, a three-year veteran and captain of the Rangers, made his commitment to the Blue Devils program earlier this month. Overall, Blackwell is very grateful for the time he has spent with the Rangers, as ultimately it helped lead him to NCAA hockey.

"To start I’d like to thank my family for all the support they have given me throughout the years," said Blackwell. "I would not be the player or person I am today if it wasn’t for all of their hard work and dedication. Playing hockey at the collegiate level has been a goal of mine for as long as I can remember. Coach DeCaprio, Coach Aucoin, and the Boston Junior Rangers organization brought me in and helped me achieve that goal over this past year and a half. Playing in the EHL taught me how to adapt, and play the game at a faster pace. I have developed immensely as a player over my time with the Junior Rangers. Lastly, I’d like to thank all my past coaches and teammates for the support they’ve given me. I'm excited to be a part of the Fredonia family!”

Looking ahead, Blackwell and the Rangers currently own the top record in the entire EHL, but have a difficult final 10 games of the regular season. The veteran forward will look to help lead his team to an ever-important First Round bye in the upcoming EHL Playoffs.
