Rangers Defenseman Set to Join Hawks this Fall

TEWKSBURY, MA -- Tanner Coleman, a defenseman for the Boston Jr. Rangers, has committed to Becker College for fall of 2020.

The '99 native of Oswego, NY is in his first season with the Rangers, as he felt the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) was the best place to play out his final year of junior hockey.

“We are very proud of Tanner's commitment to Becker," said EHL head coach and general manager Rich DeCaprio. "Tanner has been a steady workhorse for us all season. He brings a commitment to the game both on and off the ice, and he's shown tremendous improvement throughout every game and practice. He will do great at Becker!"

Coleman is the 22nd player in league history to choose the Becker hockey program, and the 3rd player in Rangers' history. Jake Cagnina was the most recent Ranger to choose the Hawks, following the 2017-18 season when his team advanced to the first-ever EHL Frozen Finals. With this weight now off of his shoulders, Coleman is hoping to help lead his team to this year's edition of the Frozen Finals. Coleman recently took some time to thank everyone that helped him along the way.

"Before my age out year I knew I had to put myself in the best possible situation to get exposure, and after doing my research and seeing how well Coach DeCaprio placed players, I knew the Jr. Rangers would be a great option for me," said Coleman. "This season playing in the EHL for the Rangers has helped me develop into a more complete player, and has helped me understand what it takes to play at the collegiate level. With the help from the coaching staff, my teammates, and my family, I am able to fulfill my dream of playing college hockey for Becker College this upcoming fall. I’m excited for my future with the Hawks!"

Coleman and the Rangers have just six games remaining in the regular season, and with a record of 33-5-2, they're hoping that a First Round bye is coming their way in the near future.
