Spartans Defenseman Joins Owls for 2nd Half

EXETER, NH -- Dan Long, a defenseman for the Seacoast Spartans, joined Westfield State University (WSU) for the 2nd half of the 2019-20 season.

"Dan was great for us during the first half of the season," said Spartans head coach Brett Tryder. "I am sure that he will have a successful career at Westfield State. He has the necessary tools to help the Owls compete for a league championship.”

Long is one of two Spartans players that joined collegiate programs at the midway point of the year, as Nevin Tardif chose Worcester State University back at the beginning of Janaury.

“I am excited to continue my academic and athletic experience at Westfield State,” said Long. “Head Coach Bob Miele is the MASCAC Coach of the Year, so I’m ready to follow his lead and do what I can to help the team finish the season strong. I want to give a special thanks to my parents and grandparents for all of their help and support over the years and to the many former teammates and coaches, especially Coach Matt Pinchevsky, who have allowed me to enjoy this great game.”

Long went on to thank the Spartans for the opportunity to play out his final season of junior hockey in New Hampshire.

“It was great to be a part of the first Seacoast EHL team. Leaving my Spartans teammates was not easy, but they know that we all play junior hockey hoping to earn another opportunity."
