Chiefs Goaltender Set to Join Bantams this Fall

NEWINGTON, CT -- JP Mella, a goaltender for the Connecticut Chiefs, has committed to Trinity College for the fall of 2020.

The 2000-born native of Stamford, CT took over as the Chiefs starting netminder in mid-October, and immediately caught the attention of teams around the league as well as NCAA coaches and scouts.

On 17 different occasions this season, Mella turned aside over 30 shots that were sent his way. Those performances also included five games in which the talented goaltender racked up over 40 saves.

"JP was an outstanding goaltender for us this season," said Chiefs head coach and general manager Neil Breen. "He has worked very hard for this commitment and we are extremely happy for him and his family. He shows up every day ready to work at bettering himself and his teammates; what more can you ask for?”

Trinity has become one of the top destinations at the NCAA Division III level. An annual contender in both the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) and NCAA Tournament, combined with the academic excellence of the school, is what has set Trinity apart.

Mella is the 5th player in league history to choose the Bantams program, and the 2nd goaltender. The 1st netminder to make the same decision was Samuel Kany of the Philadelphia Little Flyers, the 2016-17 EHL Goalie of the Year.
