Spartans Forward Set to Join Owls this Fall

EXETER, NH -- Peter Izzo, a forward for the Seacoast Spartans, has committed to Westfield State University (WSU) for the fall of 2020.

The '99 native of Canada joined the Spartans in mid-December, and in 19 total games in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), Izzo collected 10 points to his name.

"Izzo came back to me in December after spending the first half of the season in Canada," said Spartans head coach Brett Tryder. "He played with me in Connecticut last year and decided to play closer to home this year. I was excited to add him to our roster for the 2nd half of the season. He really plays with pace and he is a threat every time that he is on the ice. Peter is very dedicated to hockey and should have no problem adjusting to the college game. I have enjoyed having Peter’s energy around the locker room and I have enjoyed helping him navigate the road to college hockey.”

As Tryder mentioned, Izzo had played previously for the Spartans' head coach, in total of 38 games to be exact, during the 2018-19 season. The choice to return was huge for Izzo, as it ultimately lead to this decision, and for that he is forever grateful.

"Playing for the Seacoast Spartans organization was a tremendous and very worthwhile experience," said Izzo. "I wish to thank all of my teammates and Coach Brett Tryder for helping me achieve my goal of becoming a student-athlete at Westfield State University. I would also like to thank Principal Wade Bianco from Notre Dame Catholic High School for all his support and wisdom. I was very fortunate and grateful to have Coach Brett Tryder mentor me these past two seasons, I could not of asked for a better and more caring junior coach. I am very much excited to start the next chapter of my life with an accomplished coach in Bob Miele, and I am grateful knowing that he will be coaching me for the next four years of my hockey career.”

Izzo is the 6th NCAA Commitment and counting for the Spartans, coming off a solid inaugural season in the EHL. The future is bright for the Spartans, thanks to the foundation that Izzo and his teammates laid this past year. Tryder also gives a lot of credit to the NCAA coaches that have trusted him over the years.

"Sometimes you just feel great about about a kid’s decision on where to play his college hockey," concluded Tryder. "I trust in Coach Miele and the things that he does with his program, and I am always happy to send a player his way.”
