Apple Core Defenseman Set to Join Lions this Fall

BREWSTER, NY -- Nathan Walerowicz, a defenseman for the New York Apple Core, has committed to Finlandia University for the fall of 2020.

The '99 native of Sanborn, NY recently finished his 2nd and final season in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL). After spending a little over a year with the Philadelphia Revolution, Walerowicz joined the Apple Core in early November. Overall, at the end of his junior career, Walerowicz finished with 27 points in 82 career games.

"Nathan provided character, leadership, work ethic and accountability for us both on and off the ice," said Apple Core head coach Mike LaZazzera. "It was a pleasure seeing Nathan develop as a player and more importantly as a person. Nathan will be missed by the New York Apple Core organization."

Finlandia University is an NCAA Division III program located in Hancock, MI. Playing out of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA), the Lions battle annually against some of the top contenders in all of NCAA Division III hockey. Walerowicz is excited for the opportunity and can't wait to get started.

"I'm proud to announce my commitment to Finlandia University," said Walerowicz. "I have continuously worked to become a collegiate hockey player. Coach Burcar made me feel comfortable and excited about the prospect of joining his program. Finlandia University will allow me to grow as a person both on and off the ice. Thank you to those that believed in me as I hope to contribute to this great program!"
