Halbig Headlines Newest Set of Stars of the Week

BOSTON, MA -- As we turn the page to the month of December, the battle for points continues to heat up in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) and the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP).

Below you'll find the 10th set of weekly top performers in the #EShow. The forward and defenseman awards are presented by Verbero Hockey, while the goalie honors come courtesy of Vaughn Custom Sports.

EHL STARS OF THE WEEK #10

The EHL is pleased to announce that Lorenzo Marcolin (Walpole Express), Christian Halbig (New Hampshire Avalanche), and Nate Brennan (Valley Jr Warriors) have been named the Top Performers for Week #10.

Marcolin and the Express won a pair of tightly-contested games against the Seahawks Hockey Club this past week, skating away with a 3-1 victory on Thursday and a 3-2 win last night. The '01 native of Saratoga Springs, NY was far-and-away his team's best player, accounting for three of Walpole's six total goals. Included in those three goals were both game-winners, as Marcolin has now registered the winning tally in three straight games for the Express.

Overall, the Wilkes University commit now has 23 total points in 18 games to date, including seven points over his last four contests. Marcolin will look to stay hot and help Walpole keep rolling with another matchup against the Seahawks on Wednesday, followed by a home-and-home series with the Warriors on Thursday and Sunday.

Shifting back to the blue line, and no defensemen came close to touching Halbig's production this past week. The '01 native of Queenstown, MD scored a pair of goals and collected five total assists in three games for the Avalanche. Overall, Halbig now has 14 total points in 16 games to date this season, and will surely surpass the 16 points he notched throughout the entire 2019-20 season.

The Avalanche posted a record of 2-0-1 in their three games against the New England Wolves this past week, and continue to sit just two points behind the Boston Jr Rangers for the top spot in the New England Conference standings. Coming up this week, the Avalanche will host the Seacoast Spartans on Friday, before traveling up to Laconia on Saturday for another matchup with the Wolves.

Finishing things off between the pipes, Brennan and the Warriors have won three of their last four games including a pair of wins this past week against the East Coast Wizards. The '02 native of Arlington, MA was in net for both victories on Monday and Tuesday, giving up just a single goal in each contest. Brennan turned aside 80 of the 82 total shots that he faced, en route to his 1st and 2nd career junior hockey victories.

Brennan and the Warriors will now look to keep the momentum rolling with a full slate of games on the docket for this upcoming week.

EHLP STARS OF THE WEEK #10

The EHLP is pleased to announce that Rory White (Railers Jr Hockey Club), David Hassell (New Hampshire Avalanche), and Nathan Burlew (New Hampshire Avalanche) have been named the Top Performers for Week #10.

White and the Railers swept their two-game weekend series with the Valley Jr Warriors, and improved their record up to 7-5-0 for the season. The pair of victories comes shortly after falling to the Warriors on November 20th, so this past weekend served as solid revenge for Worcester.

The Railers offense burst out over the weekend, scoring 16 total goals combined between the two games. There were plenty of players that contributed offensively, including White who tallied a goal and an assist in each contest. Coming up this week, the Railers hit the road for a matchup with the Walpole Express on Friday, and another meeting with Valley on Sunday.

Hassell, Burlew, and the Avalanche took care of business in their only game of the week, knocking off the New England Wolves by the score of 7-1 on Tuesday. There were 10 different players who tallied at least a point on Tuesday, led by Hassell's three-point performance (two goals, one assist). For the season, the '02 native of Newton, NH now has eight points through the first 12 games, which puts him on a great pace to surpass the 12 total points he tallied throughout the entire 2019-20 season.

Between the pipes, the Avalanche have used all three of their goaltenders so far this season, with Burlew owning a slight edge in starts over Shane Peremba and Nick Maringola. Burlew, in his 2nd season with the Avalanche, can be looked at as the veteran of the group when you factor in the experience and his birth year of 2001, compared to a 2002 birth year for both Peremba and Maringola.

As for his start on Tuesday, the native of Catonsville, MD turned aside 21 of the 22 shots he faced, en route to his 5th win of the season. Burlew finished the 2019-20 season with a record of 10-1-1 to go along with a 2.70 GAA and .911 save percentage. To date this year, Burlew is 5-0-0 with a 1.98 GAA and .929 save percentage.

If there was one knock on Burlew over his career so far with the Avalanche, it would be his lack of a shutout to his name, but the stats tell us that could be changing sometime in the very near future.
