Rangers Take Over Top Spot in the EHL

BOSTON, MA -- It was a very exciting start to the month of December, as for the first time since Week #2 of the season, we have a new team at the top of the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) rankings. While the EHL is similar to the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP) with no new teams cracking their way into the top, the early shuffle could be a sign for an exciting final month of the calendar year.

EHL

Starting thing off in the EHL, the top-ranked Boston Jr Rangers kept rolling this past week, with a 3-2 victory over the Seahawks Hockey Club on Tuesday and a 6-3 win against the East Coast Wizards on Friday. For the season the Rangers are now 16-1-1 in 18 total games to date, and the defending Regular Season Champions have their sights set on going above the impressive 39-5-2 record they finished with at the end of the 2019-20 season.

As for the #2 New Jersey 87s, who sit right behind the Rangers with a record of 15-1-2, the week started off well with a 5-1 victory over Team Maryland this past Monday. Following that game however, the 87's were handed their first regulation loss of the season, a 5-2 defeat at the hands of the New York Apple Core on Friday. Looking forward, New Jersey will now look to finish the calendar year off strong with three games on the schedule this week, leading the team into the holiday break.

At #3, the New Hampshire Avalanche follow the pattern right behind the Rangers and 87s, with another tremendous record of 14-2-1 in their first 17 games to date. This past week featured just a single game for the Avalanche, as a Parker Sondag hat-trick paved the way to a 6-2 win over the Seacoast Spartans on Friday. The Avalanche will hit the ice for a pair of road games this week, starting with the New England Wolves this afternoon, and followed by another matchup with the Spartans on Thursday.

Both the #4 Walpole Express and the #5 Connecticut Chiefs were off this past week, with the Express getting set for a huge upcoming stretch that includes seven total games between now and the start of the holiday break.

EHLP

Flipping over to the EHLP, it was another week with no changes at all, as the #1 New Hampshire Avalanche remain locked into the top spot with the league's only perfect record at 12-0-0. New Hampshire is off again this upcoming week, as they get set to return for three total games before the holiday break.

At #2, the Boston Jr Rangers picked up a pair of wins this past week, stretching their winning streak out to five games and their point streak out to eight games. At 10-1-3, the Rangers continue to lead the way in the Central Division, and will look to keep things rolling with three games this week and three games next week, leading up to the holiday break.

At #3 and #4 we head to the South Division as the 1st-place New Jersey 87s won both of their games over the weekend, including a 2-1 overtime victory over the 2nd-place Philadelphia Little Flyers on Saturday. The season-long battle between these two rivals has been excellent, with five of the nine matchups to date, being decided by two goals or less.
