Avalanche Veteran Forward Set to Join Red Dragons Next Fall

HOOKSETT, NH -- Andrew Clifford, a forward for the New Hampshire Avalanche, has committed to SUNY Cortland for the fall of 2021.

The 2000-born native of Clifton Park, NY is in his second season with Avalanche in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), and in 16 total games to date, Clifford has tallied four goals and eight assists to his name. Overall, Clifford has 28 total points in 46 career games in the EHL.

"Cliffy has come a long way since the start of his first season with us," said Avalanche head coach and general manager Chris Cerrella. "He has really worked on his game and used all of our resources to elevate it to the college hockey level. He has been very impressive this season, and plays in every situation for us. His goal was to play in the SUNYAC and Cortland was a great fit for him, and it is where he ultimately wanted to be. I am very proud of him and can’t wait to see him play college hockey over the next 4 years. He will be a great addition to the Cortland community, both on and off the ice."

Clifford is the 2nd player in Avalanche history to choose the Cortland hockey program, as he joins Jake Ballagh from the 2018-19 championship squad. In terms of the EHL, Clifford is the 18th player in league history to choose the program in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC).

"I'm extremely excited to announce my commitment to SUNY Cortland to continue my academic and athletic careers back in New York," said Clifford. "I would like to thank Coach Cerrella, Coach Mario, and Coach Caliguri, as well the rest of the New Hampshire Avalanche organization, my former coaches and trainers, and all my friends and family. I’d also like to say the Eastern Hockey League is top-notch in developing their players, not into just great hockey players, but into great people. The time I have spent at the New Hampshire Avalanche has been the best two years of my life. I am so grateful for being a part of such a high-class organization and league!”

Clifford and the Avalanche are off to another great start this season, owning an overall record of 16-2-1 in their first 19 games to date. With two more games on the schedule between now and the start of the holiday break, the veteran forward will look to help keep his team keep rolling into 2021.
