87's All-Star Forward Set to Join Colonels this Fall

WALL TOWNSHIP, NJ -- Nick Swain, a forward for the New Jersey 87's, has committed to Wilkes University for the fall of 2021.

The 2000-born native of Jackson, NJ joined the 87's in December of 2019, tallying an even eight goals and eight assists in 25 games down the stretch. Fast-forward to this season, and Swain has more than doubled his production with 33 points in 22 total games to date. Overall, Swain is one point away from hitting the 50-point milestone in his Eastern Hockey League (EHL) career.

"Swain has worked extremely hard over the past 14 months to reach his goal," said 87's head coach and general manager Adam Houli. "When he started with us last year he was still raw with a lot of potential, and has really established himself as one of the top players in the Eastern Hockey League. He is a phenomenal person who does everything the right way with the team-first mentality. I couldn’t be more excited for him and I know Wilkes is getting a very good hockey player and an even better person."

With his commitment Swain becomes the 2nd player in team history to choose the Wilkes hockey program, following in the footsteps of Jack Lane. The veteran forward is excited about this decision and glad to now have this weight off of his shoulders.

"It's a such of relief just getting that weight off my shoulders," said Swain. "Wilkes was my #1 school; it's a very highly respected program, so I'm looking forward to that and hopefully we stay in the ranks as one of the top D-III teams."

Swain went on to talk about how the 87's turned him into an EHL All-Star, as the coaching staff provided him with all the tools needed to succeed.

"Coach Houli and Coach Matt do a lot of things well," added Swain. "The team breeds you to buy into their systems, and once you buy in it makes the game so much easier, because once everyone knows what they're doing, it eventually becomes muscle memory and you don't even have to think about it."

Swain and the 87's sit at the top of the South Division standings with a record of 21-1-2. New Jersey has won six straight contests and they will look to make it seven when they host the Connecticut RoughRiders tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 pm.
