Express Forward Set to Join Skyhawks this Fall

WALPOLE, MA -- Matt Ryan, a forward for the Walpole Express, has committed to Stonehill College for the fall of 2021.

The '01 native of Milton, MA is in his first year with the Express, following a four-year high school career at Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood, MA. In 25 Eastern Hockey League (EHL) games to date, Ryan has tallied four goals and five assists to his name.

"Matt has been so versatile for us this season and has been very effective in each role he has played for our team," said Express head coach and general manager Cody Campbell. "His play away from the puck has greatly matured this year and I am confident he will be able to step into Stonehill’s line up and make an impact from day one.”

When Ryan arrives on the Stonehill campus, he will enjoy the comfort of already knowing one of his teammates in Matthew Talarico. What's unique about Talarico is that he was supposed to be a freshman with the Skyhawks this season, after committing to Stonehill around this same time last year. However, Talarico is back in Walpole due to the shutdown of hockey in the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10). Ryan is excited to join Talarico at Stonehill this fall, and ecstatic over finding such a perfect fit for himself.

“Stonehill is the right school for me both academically and for hockey," said Ryan. "I have been speaking with Coach Borges since last year and he and the staff have always made me feel so comfortable. I toured the school last year and loved the campus. The opportunity to play hockey for Stonehill and Coach Borges, and the ability to pursue my education in business makes this a perfect fit for me.”

Ryan went on to talk about his decision to play for the Express, and how it all ultimately led to this moment.

"I want thank Coach Campbell and the Walpole Express organization for giving me the opportunity to play in such a great league," said Ryan. "The league is so competitive that I have been forced to improve not only through games, but also within our own practices. Because of that I feel so much more prepared to make the transition to college hockey.”

Ryan and the Express are riding a three-game winning streak into tomorrow's home matchup with the Valley Jr Warriors. Puck drop is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
