Avalanche Forward Set to Join Falcons this Fall

HOOKSETT, NH -- Corey Tumenas, a forward for the New Hampshire Avalanche, has committed to Fitchburg State University for the fall of 2021.

The 2000-born native of Leominster, MA came to the Avalanche for his final season of junior hockey, and in 20 Eastern Hockey League (EHL) games to date, he's tallied 13 total points to his name.

"It's exciting when players get to their top academic and athletic destinations playing for us," said Avalanche head coach and general manager Chris Cerrella. "Corey wanted to play hockey at Fitchburg State and join their academic community, and now that opportunity has become reality for him. He is going to do a good job at the college hockey level and I am excited to see how he continues to develop over the next 4 years. I wish him and his family nothing but the best in the future."

Tumenas is one of two players from this year's Avalanche team that has committed to Fitchburg State for this upcoming fall. When the veteran forward arrives on campus, he will be joined by defenseman Christian Halbig who chose the Falcons program back in December. Tumenas is excited to be heading to school with his teammate, and beyond grateful that it all worked out with his top choice.

"I'm very excited for the next step in my life at Fitchburg State," said Tumenas. "I've always dreamed about playing college hockey as a kid, so I'm turning a dream into a reality.  I would like to thank all of my coaches along the way and a big thank you to Coach Cerrella and the NH Avalanche program for helping me achieve my goal.  I want to also thank my parents for all they have done for me and for supporting me throughout my entire hockey career.  I can't wait to be a Falcon!"

Earlier this week Tumenas was acquired by the Seacoast Spartans for the stretch run and upcoming EHL Playoffs.
