Railers Forward Set to Join Rams this Fall

WORCESTER, MA -- Joe Lizotte, a forward for the Railers Jr Hockey Club, has committed to Suffolk University for the fall of 2021.

The 2000-born native of Franklin, MA is in his 2nd season with the Railers, and first full year at the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) level. This past season (2019-20) he played 19 total games in the EHL, and 36 total games in the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP). Overall, the two full years of junior experience have prepared Lizotte to take his game to the next level.

"Joe has been the heart and soul of the Worcester Jr. Railers organization,” said Railers head coach Sean Bertoni. “He's a quiet leader who ignites our team on a regular basis; he provides a spark of energy with his quickness and speed. Joe is a perfect example of how the Junior process works, a high school kid putting in two years of hard work to get to the next level. I cannot say enough positive things about Joe Lizotte and I am thrilled he is going to have the opportunity to be a student-athlete at Suffolk University.”

Looking back at Lizotte's time in the EHLP, and he proved his play-making abilities right away, averaging just under a point per game with 18 goals and 16 assist this past season. As for his play at the EHL level, Lizotte notched eight points this past season, but quickly surpassed that total with already 17 points accumulated so far this year.

Lizotte is proud that he climbed up the league's ladder of development, as it all lead to this moment, and he has now earned the chance to play college hockey near where he grew up.

"I definitely had some other options, but I always wanted to be in Boston,” said Lizotte. “I am thankful this opportunity came about. It is something I couldn’t pass up.”

Lizotte went on to talk about the Railers organization and how they helped turn his dream into a reality.

"A couple of weeks after Coach Bertoni reached out to the coaching staff at Suffolk, my parents and I spoke with Coach Glionna on a Zoom call and found that this was the place I wanted to go and play. One of the biggest things was that they offer phenomenal business courses there. I can’t thank the Railers enough for helping me earn this opportunity. They opened up a lot of windows for me, and taught me all concepts of the game. Coach [Mike] Addesa (Railers GM) specifically taught me how to be a leader, how to take a leadership role, and includes life lessons for us every day, like how to be a good husband and father someday.”

Lizotte and the Railers are right in the thick of things in the Central Division standings. The Railers would be the #4 seed if the playoffs started today, and they have six regular season games remaining to try and improve on that position.
