Wolves Defenseman Set to Join Hounds this Fall

LACONIA, NH -- John Woernle, a defenseman for the New England Wolves, has committed to Assumption College for the fall of 2021.

The 2000-born native of Wellesley, MA is in his 2nd season with the Wolves, and in 78 career games in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), he's tallied 22 total points to his name.

"John is a player who came to us two years ago," said Wolves head coach Tim Kunes. "He’s improved so much to get to where he is at now; he’s really taken everything our program has to offer and gotten the most out of it. I’m very happy and proud of John for getting his college commitment!"

With Woernle's commitment the streak is extended for the EHL, as dating back to the formation of the league in 2013, there has been at least one player every season that has committed to Assumption. Overall, Woernle is the 17th player in league history to choose the Hounds' hockey program.

Woernle and the Wolves are one of the hottest teams in the EHL right now, with a record of 5-1-1 in seven games so far in the month of February. Currently, New England is in 2nd place in the North Division, which is a spot they would like to stay in, and own home-ice advantage in their matchup with whatever team finishes in 3rd place.

With five games remaining in the regular season, Woernle and the Wolves will look to keep the momentum rolling into the postseason.
