Ducks Forward Set to Join Blue Devils this Fall

SOMERSET, NJ -- Olivier Charest, a forward for the Protec Jr Ducks, has committed to the University of Wisconsin-Stout for the fall of 2021.

The 2000-born native of Canada joined the Ducks in mid-November, and in 18 Eastern Hockey League (EHL) games to date, the talented forward is averaging over a point per game, with seven goals and 12 assists to his credit.

"Olivier is a dynamic player and you notice him every time he’s on the ice," said Ducks head coach and general manager Terry Watt. "He’s a big body with a lot of skill. We’re thrilled for him and we wish the best of luck with his collegiate hockey career.”

History is being made with this commitment, as Charest is the first player in EHL history to choose UW-Stout. Overall, the Canadian forward is the 14th player in league history to commit to a school in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC).

“They [Blue Devils] started to watch a few games when I transferred to Protec and the process went very fast,” said Charest. “I think just school-wise, hockey-wise, and financially it was just the best fit for me.”

Charest went on to talk about playing in the EHL, and the development he's gained from that experience as well as from his time with the Ducks.

“I can definitely assure that the EHL is a challenging league and I think that the EHL can get you ready for the NCAA level,” added Charest. “As far as the Jr. Ducks and Terry, they’re working hard to put us in contact with universities and in goods ways for sure.”
