Spartans Defenseman Set to Join Pair of Former Teammates this Fall

EXETER, NH -- Nick Librizzi, a defenseman for the Seacoast Spartans, has committed to the University of Southern Maine (USM) for the fall of 2021.

The 2000-born native of Raleigh, NC joined the Spartans around the mid-way point of this past season, after a period of time spent with Team Maryland. Throughout his career in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), Librizzi has played in 58 total games, tallying 17 points along the way.

“Nick has been a quiet leader for our program," said Spartans head coach and general manager Brett Tryder. "He is a great kid, a great student, and has represented our program with class. He is a very skilled defenseman and he will enjoy the big ice sheet at USM. Nick is a nice combination of grit and skill. I have no doubt that he will have a great career at Southern Maine."

Librizzi is actually one of two players from the North Division that will be heading to Southern Maine this fall, as he will join up with Kyle Penton from the New England Wolves when he arrives on campus. Also, when Librizzi joins the Huskies, it will be a reunion for him with Shea Flanagan and Nick Nault, a pair of captains from last year's team at Seacoast.

"Coming to Seacoast and the EHL was the best choice for my development," said Librizzi. "Coach Tryder really helped me improve my overall game, and pushed me to new levels. My time with the Spartans has helped me find, and commit too, a quality university to further my hockey career. I am super excited to play under Coach Harding at Southern Maine. I’ve heard nothing but good things about Coach Harding and the program he has. I can’t wait to get started next season."

With this weight off of his shoulders, Librizzi can now turn his full attention towards the upcoming EHL Playoffs and the Spartans' Second Round matchup with the New Hampshire Avalanche.
