Chiefs Co-Captain Set to Join Teammate this Fall

SPRINGFIELD, MA -- Ethan Rodriguez, a defenseman for the Western Mass Chiefs, has committed to Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) for the fall of 2021.

The 2000-born native of Sioux City, IA recently finish his 2nd and final season with the Chiefs, and in 82 career games in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), Rodriguez notched 22 assists to his name.

“Ethan was a captain for me when he was 15-years-old back in Omaha," said Chiefs head coach and general manager Neil Breen. "He was the same super-relatable, shutdown d-man with tremendous vision and leadership skills. Ethan worked incredibly hard for his commitment at SNHU. Ethan’s leadership, kindness, enthusiasm and drive to succeed will take him extremely far. We are all excited for Ethan and his family and wish him the best of luck.”

Rodriguez goes down as the 32 player in league history to commit to the SNHU hockey program, and the 154th player in league history to choose a school out of the Northeast-10 Conference (NE10). Rodriguez will also be joined by his teammate and fellow co-captain Max Phillips, when he arrives on campus this fall. The veteran defenseman is beyond grateful to have earned this opportunity with the Penmen.

“I met Coach Breen way back in the day. He was a great coach back then, and he finally convinced me to play Junior-A hockey with him in Connecticut,” said Rodriguez. “Coach Breen has taught me a lot over the years, and I want to thank him, my family, and the Chiefs organIzation for getting me into the NCAA. It’s been a long journey and I can’t wait to take the next step.”
