87's Veteran Goaltender Set to Join Colonels this Fall

WALL TOWNSHIP, NJ -- Jon Kopack, a goaltender for the New Jersey 87's, has committed to Curry College for the fall of 2021.

The 2000-born native of Ramsey, NJ recently finished his third and final season with the 87's, and looking back on his Eastern Hockey League (EHL) career, Kopack's 41 all-time wins ranks him as the 8th winningest netminder in league history.

"I am very happy to see him [Jon] commit; he has worked extremely hard as an 87 and to see it pay off is such tremendous accomplishment," said 87's head coach and general manager Adam Houli. "Jon has done everything we asked and beyond. He is a great player both on and off the ice, and he will be sorely missed. I can’t wait to see his college career unfold."

As mentioned above, Kopack amassed a total of 41 wins throughout his career in the EHL, as he owned an overall record of 41-7-1 to go along with a 2.38 GAA, a .909 save percentage, and seven shutouts. Similar to his total victories, Kopack's total shutouts also place his name in the EHL record books, as he ranks tied for 4th all-time in that category.

Kopack took time to discuss his commitment to Curry, and what it means for him to join the Colonels this fall.

"It's extremely special to me," said Kopack. "I've been working towards this goal of getting an NCAA Commitment for the past three years. I couldn't have done it without the help and support of all my teammates, coaches, and most importantly, my family."

Kopack went on to talk about how his time with the 87's program ultimately led to this moment.

"The process the 87's have for developing players helped me both on and off the ice," added Kopack. "During my three years with the 87's, my game constantly developed and my confidence grew each day. Being one of the three-year veterans helped me develop into a leader and I became more mature as a player. I trusted the process of 'The 87 Way' and it gave me the opportunity to continue onto the college level."
