Little Flyers Defenseman Climbs Ladder to NCAA Hockey

ASTON, PA -- Ryan Clear, a defenseman for the Philadelphia Little Flyers, has committed to Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) for the fall of 2021.

The 2000-born native of Cherry Hill, NJ recently finished his 3rd and final season of junior hockey. The sturdy defenseman's career began at the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP) level with the New Jersey 87's. In 43 total games during the 2018-19 season, Clear tallied 11 goals and 23 assists to his name.

Moving along to the 2019-20 campaign, Clear returned to the 87's and began the year with four games in the EHLP, along with 14 Eastern Hockey League (EHL) games for New Jersey. For the 2nd half of that campaign Clear headed up to Warwick, PA for a fellow Mid-Atlantic Conference team in the Philadelphia Revolution. Clear played 14 total games for Philadelphia, and then closed things out this past season, as he headed south of the city to join the Little Flyers. Overall, Clear notched 40 points in 47 career games in the EHLP, and 26 points in 65 career games in the EHL.

"Ryan did it all for us this season, he had previous EHL experience which helped us throughout the year since we had a younger team," said Little Flyers head coach and general manager Mark Catron. "The biggest thing he brought to us was his versatility; there were several occasions where we needed him to play forward for us and he did a great job. Ryan’s work ethic really showed throughout this season on the ice and in the weight room; he is going to be a great asset and collegiate player for Southern New Hampshire."

Clear goes in the books as the 33rd player in league history to choose SNHU, and 5th from this past season. The group that Clear is joining includes Connor Ball from Team MarylandBrendan Ogle from the New England Wolves, and Max Phillips and Ethan Rodriguez from the Western Mass Chiefs.

"I would like to say thank you to my family for always supporting me in my dream of playing college hockey, and also a huge thanks to the Little Flyers organization, to Coach Catron and Anthony Lorusso for helping me achieve my goals, and all of the teammates I’ve played with along my EHL journey," said Clear. "None of this would be possible without them. I am very excited to continue my hockey career at Southern New Hampshire University this fall."
