Ducks Goaltender Set to Join Golden Flyers this Fall

SOMERSET, NJ -- Matt Sayles, a goaltender for the Protec Jr Ducks, has committed to Nazareth College for the fall of 2021.

The 2000-born native of Milton, GA came to the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) for his final season of junior hockey, and he began the year across the Garden State, with the New Jersey 87s. Sayles headed over to Somerset to join the Ducks in early February, and overall, he amassed a record of 16-3-1 in 20 total starts this past season.

"Matt made an immediate impact with our club as soon as he walked into our locker room; he brought the confidence and swagger our team need at the right time down the stretch," said Ducks head coach and general manager Terry Watt. "Our organization is thrilled for Matt, this was a much-deserved commitment for a guy who battles each game to give his team a chance every night."

Along with his impressive win-loss record between the pipes, Sayles also posted high marks with a 2.22 GAA, a .927 save percentage, and four shutouts. The veteran netminder is looking forward to joining Nazareth, and is also very grateful to Watt and the Ducks for welcoming him in late in the season.

"I am very excited for the next four years at Nazareth, and I am ready to get to work as a Golden Flyer," said Sayles. "I am grateful for my time with the Jr. Ducks; Coach Z and Coach Watt gave me the opportunity to be successful and I am appreciative of the support and development they provided me during my time with Protec.”
