Little Flyers Goaltender Set to Join Lancers this Fall

ASTON, PA -- Jakub Kubik, a goaltender for the Philadelphia Little Flyers, has committed to Worcester State University for the fall of 2021.

Kubik chose the Little Flyers for his first and only season of junior hockey this past year, coming over from his home country of the Czech Republic. In 25 total starts in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), Kubik owned a record of 15-9-1, to go along with a 2.78 GAA, a .913 save percentage, and two shutouts.

"We are all very proud of Jakub and what he was able to accomplish this season," said Little Flyers head coach and general manager Mark Catron. "It’s not easy coming over to the United States and getting quickly adapted to the game, along with becoming the workhorse he was for us down the stretch. Jakub came to us last summer wanting to live out his dream of playing hockey and going to college here in the states; he put the work in  both on and off the ice and was enrolled in online college courses throughout the year. I’m happy that he is going to get a great opportunity at Worcester State with Coach Deraney."

Kubik is one of two EHL players that committed to Worcester State following the conclusion of the 2020-21 season, as he will be joined by Maxwell Tucker of the Valley Jr Warriors when arrives on campus this fall. Overall, Kubik is the 37th player in league history to choose the Lancers' program.

"First and foremost, I want to thank my family for always supporting me throughout my hockey career," said Kubik. "I would like to thank the Philadelphia Little Flyers organization, Coach Catron, Anthony Lorusso, and my teammates, for everything they have done for me. I am also incredibly grateful for my billet family, Mike and Vicky and the entire Hargesheimer family. Last, but not least, a huge thanks to my advisors from Sport & Study, Robert Sovik, Nick DiLisi and to my family advisor Jaroslav Balastik. I am extremely grateful and excited for the opportunity I am being given by Coach Deraney and his staff at Worcester State University; I’m looking forward to continuing my hockey career for the Lancers and the opportunity to earn a degree from Worcester State."
