Apple Core All-Star Forward Set to Join Corsairs this Fall

BREWSTER, NY -- Michael Leva, a forward for the New York Apple Core, has committed to UMass Dartmouth (UMD) for the fall of 2021.

The 2000-born native of Mt. Pleasant, NY spent two seasons with the Apple Core, and over the course of that time, solidified himself as one of the top scorers in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), Overall, in 79 career games in the EHL, Leva finished with 82 total points (31 goals, 51 assists).

"In my opinion, Leva wss the best all around player in the league last year,” said Apple Core head coach and general manager Mike LaZazzera. “Leva is an all around two-way player who is conscious in his own end of the ice, but ready to create a play and drive the offense. A true captain as he was one of three to wear the 'A' this past season, you knew he had the coaches back when you left the locker room. Huge locker room guy as well, as he was well liked by all teammates the past two seasons.”

Leva is one of two players heading off to UMD this fall, as he will join up with Timothy Kippenberger of the Valley Jr Warriors when he arrives on campus. Together, Leva and Kippenberger bring the league's total up to 33 total players that have chosen the Cosairs' hockey program since 2013. It's also worth noting that the EHL has seen at least two players advance onto UMD in all eight seasons since the league was formed.

"Junior hockey throughout the past 3 years has taught me so much," said Leva. "It truly was the best experience of my life building friendships that will last a lifetime and memories. Lastly, these last two seasons at Apple Core have truly shaped me into the person I am today; a huge thank you to everyone that has pushed me these last two seasons. I would not be going to school without them.”
