Apple Core Veteran Forward Set to Join Valiants this Fall

BREWSTER, NY -- Matt Milone, a forward for the New York Apple Core, has committed to Manhattanville College for the fall of 2021.

The 2000-born native of West Harrison, NY spent a pair of seasons with the Apple Core, and in 66 career games in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), Milone tallied 11 goals and 15 assists to his credit.

“A true coach's player,” said Apple Core head coach and general manager Mike LaZazzera. “[Matt] Milone has one of the best work ethics both on and off the ice. Matt is also a great utility player who was able to play on the power-play and short handed; he was an excellent role player. Along with being a great skater, Milone also had the hardest shot on the team and one of the hardest shots I've seen at this level.”

Overall, Milone is the 18th player in league history to choose Manhattanville, and the 3rd player from the 2020-21 campaign. This fall, Milone will become teammates with James Gregory of the Connecticut RoughRiders and  Artem Mateichenko of the New Hampshire Avalanche.

"Playing college hockey has always been a dream for me since I was a little kid," said Milone. "I’ve played at a number of different organizations since I’ve started. Over the past 2 years while being with the New York Apple Core has been nothing but top level when it comes to the ownership, coaching staff, teammates, and the facilities we have. Playing junior hockey has been my best decision of my life and I wouldn’t take it back with all the friends and relationships I’ve made over the years. Now that I have the opportunity to play at Manhattanville College, I’ve never been more excited for the next chapter in my hockey career. I want to thank everyone involved starting off with our our head coach Michael LaZazzera, our assistant coach Rob Belger, and our goalie coach Matt Grogan for all the hard work they’ve put in to get me to the next level. Finally, I want to thank my family and friends for supporting me along the way and sacrificing everything they could to see me live out my dream.”
