Chiefs Forward Set to Join Thunder this Fall

NEWINGTON, CT -- Tyler Shetland, a forward for the Connecticut Chiefs, has committed to Trine University for the fall of 2021.

The 2000-born native of Laguna HIlls, CA joined the Chiefs in early February of this past season, and posted eight points in 13 Eastern Hockey League (EHL) games down the stretch.

“Getting Shetland was a huge deal for us,” said former Chiefs head coach and general manager Neil Breen. "Tyler is a tremendously talented athlete who added offense, leadership, and experience to our front-end and truly helped us find our second-half success. We’re excited for Tyler as he continues his journey. He’s a fantastic kid with a bright future. We wish him all the best as he heads to a great hockey program and education at Trine University.”

Shetland is one of two EHL players heading off to Trine this fall, as he'll become new teammates with Matthew Bielinski from the New Jersey 87's. Overall, Shetland and Bielinski bring the Thunder's total up to 18 players committed from the EHL since 2017.

“My experience with the Chiefs organization was incredible," said Shetland. "The Chiefs and the EHL provide an excellent model for development of their players. Any young player looking for a home, big or small, will find an excellent place here in the league. I feel extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to play for the Chiefs' program. The support and constant communication from the coaching staff the entire way through was second-to-none.”
