Rangers Veteran Forward Set to Join Blue Devils Next Fall

TEWKSBURY, MA -- Jack Schlifke, a forward for the Boston Jr Rangers, has committed to SUNY Fredonia for the fall of 2022.

The '01 native of Penfield, NY joined the Rangers for the stretch run of the 2020-21 season, and in 14 total games, Schlifke notched a goal and 10 assists to his credit. The 6'5" forward played an important role while helping the Rangers earn their first-ever EHL Championship. Fast forward to this current season, and in 11 total games to date this year, Schlifke has a pair of goals to go along with five assists.

“When you’re 6’5” on the ice, there’s a different presence," said Rangers head coach and general manager Rich DeCaprio. "Most big players struggle to skate, but Jack is a very good skater for how big he is.”

Schlifke is part of a three-player player class that the EHL is sending off to Fredonia this fall, as he will join up with Baxter Kimball of the New Hampshire Avalanche and Spencer Quinn of the Protec Jr Ducks. Also, when Schlifke arrives on campus, he will be reunited with a pair of 2020-21 teammates in Ryan Bailey and Johnny Malandruccolo.

“Fredonia seemed like a perfect fit for me because the culture and structure is very similar to what we have here at BJR,” said Schlifke. “It’s a tight knit community with a great hockey program and I felt very comfortable there when I visited. BJR and the EHL have helped me a tremendous amount as far as exposure and development. Playing for Coach DeCaprio has helped me become a more dynamic player as well as a better person. I’d like to thank my family, Coach DeCaprio, and all of my teammates over the years for helping me get to where I am today.”

Schlifke and the defending champions are contenders once again this season, with a record of 20-4-1 in their first 25 games of the season.

Coming up at the showcase this week, Schlifke and the Rangers will face-off against the New Jersey 87s on Tuesday, the Vermont Lumberjacks on Wednesday, and the New York Apple Core on Thursday, in the team's final three games before the holiday break.
