Avalanche Defenseman Set to Join Ephs Next Fall

HOOKSETT, NH -- Liam Jones, a defenseman for the New Hampshire Avalanche, has committed to Williams College for the fall of 2022.

The '02 native of Lincolnshire, IL came to the Avalanche for his first only season of junior hockey, and in 20 total Eastern Hockey League (EHL) games to date, Jones has tallied a goal and four assists to his credit.

"Liam has been a great addition to our locker room and organization," said Avalanche head coach and general manager Chris Cerrella. "He has really developed this season with us as he prepares for next year at Williams College. Jonesy is the complete student-athlete; he puts the time in to improving every day and he also put the time into his academics. Coach Kangas and I have spoke a lot about Liam and he is very excited to add him to the Williams community. I wish Jonesy the best of luck in the future, and I know he is going to do a great job both on the ice and in the classroom."

Despite having a year of junior hockey eligibility remaining after this season, Jones knows that he is ready for the next level right now. The 6'1" reliable defenseman is the 2nd player in Avalanche history to choose Williams, as he joins Connor Kucharski from the 2017-18 team. Overall, Jones can't wait to get started next fall, and he points a lot of credit in the direction of the Avalanche.

"I’m extremely excited to announce my commitment to further both my athletic and academic career at Williams College," said Jones. "I would like to thank all my teammates, Coach Cerrella, Coach Vinny, and the entire Avalanche organization for helping me achieve this dream of mine, as well as Coach [Mike] Monti of the Windy City Storm. Most importantly of all, I would like to thank my parents and family for the endless sacrifices they have made to allow me this amazing opportunity, and who have pushed me every day to be the best hockey player and person possible. Go Ephs!"

Jones and the Avalanche just recently closed out the 2021 calendar year by winning five games in seven days, including a trio of victories at the Newington Showcase. The impressive stretch improved the team's overall record up to 22-3-3 for the season, and they are currently tied with the New Jersey 87s for the longest active winning streak in the EHL.
