Zdanowicz Headlines First Set of Stars in 2022

BOSTON, MA -- We're off and running in 2022, as action has resumed in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) and the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP).

Below you'll find the 15th set of weekly top performers in the #EShow. The forward and defensemen awards are presented by Verbero Hockey, while the goalie honors come courtesy of Vaughn Custom Sports.

EHL STARS OF THE WEEK #15

The EHL is pleased to announce that Matthew Zdanowicz (New Jersey 87s), Zach Ladd (East Coast Wizards), and Gideon Sullivan (Team Maryland) have been named the Top Performers for Week #15.

Zdanowicz and the 87's picked up right where they left off in 2021, as New Jersey returned from the break and earned victories over the Philadelphia Little Flyers, the Protec Jr Ducks, and the Connecticut RoughRiders this past week. As for the '01 native of Lyndhurst, NJ, this past week's three games were his first since mid-November, as Zdanowicz missed some time due to injury. However, the 2nd-year forward showed now rust will tallying three goals and three assists throughout the week.

Overall, the 2021 EHL All-Star now has 25 points in 23 total games to date, and has helped the 87's extend their active winning streak out to a league-leading 10 games. New Jersey will try to make it 11 in a row, when they face-off with Maryland tomorrow at Noon.

Shifting back to the blue line, Ladd and the Wizards hit the ice for just a single game this past week, but made it count by earning a 4-3 victory over the Connecticut Chiefs. As for the '03 native of Canada, it was far and away Ladd's best game of the season, as he tallied his first three assists of the year. Tack on the goal that Ladd scored against the RoughRiders in the final game of the Newington Showcase, and the young defensemen is riding some momentum into the Exeter Showcase.

Winners of their last two games, Ladd and the Wizards are set to face-off with the Walpole Express, the Seahawks Hockey Club, and Maryland at the final league-wide event of the season.

Speaking of Maryland, a team that has already been mentioned a few times above, the 1st-place program in the South Division picked up two wins of their own this past week. Sullivan and Maryland returned strong from the break by earning a pair of victories over the New York Apple Core.

As for the '02 native of Getzville, NY, Sullivan was in net for each contest, stopping 63 of the 67 shots that he faced, earning his 7th and 8th respective wins of the year. Sandwiched between tomorrow's game with the 87's and Monday's showcase game with the Wizards, Maryland's schedule also includes a showcase matchup with the Valley Jr Warriors on Sunday.

EHLP STARS OF THE WEEK #15

The EHLP is pleased to announce that Robert Voss (Vermont Lumberjacks), Aidan Swain (Railers Jr Hockey Club), and Cam Wickens (Railers Jr Hockey Club) have been named the Top Performers for Week #15.

Voss and the Lumberjacks returned from the holiday break and picked up a home-weekend sweep of the New England Wolves this past Saturday and Sunday. As for the '02 native of Norwood, NY, Voss played in role in nearly 1/3 of the total goals that Vermont scored throughout the weekend, finding the back of the net three times to go along with a pair of assists. Overall, Voss now has 18 points in 24 total games to date, of which 12 of those points have come since December 8th.

Looking forward, Voss and the Lumberjacks have a big weekend on tap, as they play the New Jersey Renegades on Saturday and Sunday, and then take on the Wolves again on Monday.

Swain, Wickens, and the Railers returned from the holiday break with a weekend sweep of their own, beating the Valley Jr Warriors by the score of 7-4 on Saturday and the Connecticut Chiefs by a margin of 4-3 in overtime on Sunday. The pair of wins gave the Railers four more points in the standings, powering them into 1st place in the East Division.

Starting with Swain, the '03 native of Richmond, VA was held off the scoresheet the matchup with the Warriors, but the same can not be said for Sunday's contest with the Chiefs. After picking up an assist on the Railers' 1st goal of the game, Swain added the overtime winner later that afternoon, helping the Railers secure a huge road victory. For the season, Swain now has eight points in 20 total games to date.

As for Wickens, while this past weekend's games may not have been his best two performances of the season, he was strong enough in net to pick up his 10th and 11th victories of the year. With an 11-2-0 record, plus a 1.90 GAA and a .920 save percentage, the '04 native of Revere, MA was an easy selection for this weekend's EHLP All-Star Game in Exeter, NH. Wickens will suit up for Team Gray when the puck drops at 7:30 pm on Saturday night.
