Avalanche Forward Set to Join Blue Devils this Fall

HOOKSETT, NH -- Joe Santoro, a forward for the New Hampshire Avalanche, has committed to SUNY Fredonia for the fall of 2022.

The '02 native of Wolcott, CT is in his 2nd season in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) and first year with the Avalanche. Overall, in 60 career games in the EHL, Santoro has tallied 15 goals and 22 assists to his credit.

"Joe has junior playing experience in both the EHL and the NCDC," said Avalanche head coach and general manager Chris Cerrella. "He is a very good 200-foot player, that competes every practice and every shift. We are glad that he found a college commitment to SUNY Fredonia here with us. I think he is going to be a fantastic college hockey player and an excellent student. He is going to be a great addition to the SUNY Fredonia community. We wish Joe and his family the best of luck in the future!"

Santoro is one of two Avalanche players heading out to Fredonia this fall, as he will be joined by Baxter Kimball when he arrives on campus in New York. In total, Santoro is the 5th EHL player to choose the Blue Devils so far this season, and the 146th player in league history to pick a program in the highly-competitive State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC).

"I’m very excited to spend the next four years at SUNY Fredonia," said Santoro. "I would like to thank all my teammates, coaches, friends, and family for their help and support to get me to this point. I want to thank Coach Cerrella and the Avs for helping me achieve my goal of playing college hockey. I can’t wait to get back to New Hampshire and gear up to make a push for an EHL Championship."

As Santoro mentioned, the Avalanche have their sights set on claiming the 3rd EHL Championship in program history. Currently ranked as the #1 team in the league, New Hampshire owns a record of 22-3-3 and they ended 2021 on a seven-game winning streak.
