New EHLP Team Set to Hit the Ice this Fall in New York

BOSTON, MA -- With the conclusion of last week's Mid-Winter Meetings for USA Hockey, the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP) is pleased to officially welcome in the Adirondack Jr. Thunder for the upcoming 2022-23 season.

The Thunder will become the 14th member of the EHLP and will operate out of Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls, NY.

The Adirondack Jr. Thunder will be locally owned and operated by Todd Tierney and Tadd Sipowicz, Chief Revenue Officer for the Adirondack Thunder of the ECHL.

"We are excited to bring the EHLP to Glens Falls," said the new ownership group. "Many of our local talent has had to go out of the area to start their junior hockey career and continue the quest to move up the ranks to college hockey or higher levels. This gives the opportunity for many of our homegrown talent to stay in the area as well as bring exciting new talent to our region."

Jeff Mead is the General Manager of the Cool Insuring Arena, and he will also act as the General Manager of Business Operations for the new junior program.

"We are honored to be a part of the EHLP starting in the 2022-23 season," said Mead. "We will work hard to be a valued member of the league. Our commitment will be to operate at the highest level, both on and off the ice and in our community. We look forward to a long-lasting partnership with the EHL, EHLP, and USA Hockey."

As for the team’s Head Coach, that will be Glenn Merkosky, the all-time franchise leader in games played, goals, assists, and points for the AHL’s Adirondack Red Wings. The AHL Hall of Famer is the proud owner of four Stanley Cup rings, six Calder Cup rings, and one Colonial Cup ring.

"We are excited to give our local players a chance to develop in our area," said Merkosky. "For too long they’ve had to travel away and leave home; this should give the the best kids in the capital district in northern New York area a chance to play together and develop in a great venue. We look forward to the upcoming season and our participation in the EHLP."
