Railers Forward Set to Join Camels this Fall

WORCESTER, MA -- Mike DiMascolo, a forward for the Railers Jr Hockey Club, has committed to Connecticut College for the fall of 2022.

The 2000-born native of Cranston, RI is in his 2nd season and 1st full year with the Railers, after joining Worcester in mid-December of the 2020-21 campaign. Overall, in 49 total EHL games to date, DiMascolo has scored 22 goals to go along with 12 assists.

"Our entire organization is ecstatic for Mike and his family on this commitment to Connecticut College,” said Railers head coach Sean Bertoni. “Mike came to us last year with Connecticut College as his number one choice. Mike is a phenomenal young man, he is one of the most pleasant players I have been around, a truly genuine person. He has put in the work to achieve his goal. Mike has rare skills and every day I am shocked with his ability. He is a mature kid with a ton of potential. I know he will be a successful student-athlete at Connecticut College."

DiMascolo goes in the books as the 18th player in league history to choose Connecticut College, and the 1st from the current 2021-22 season. With this commitment, the Camels have now committed at least one player per season since the EHL was formed back in 2013 (nine years).

“I’m very excited,” said DiMascolo. “It is a top choice for me. I’m glad I was able to finally seal the deal. Connecticut College is such a great school academically. I’ve been looking at it since I was at St. George’s. I’ve known Coach [Jim] Ward for a very long time.”

DiMascolo went on to talk about what brought him to Worcester, and why he feels very fortunate that the path played out the way that it did for him.

“After an unfortunate start to that season [2020-21], I am happy that I ended up with the Railers,” added DiMascolo. “It was a great spot for me. I did all right. They have been so helpful. Coach Bertoni advocated for me every day, and Coach A [General Manager - Mike Addesa] was there for me as well. That is the benefit of playing for the Railers, to have these types of resources. They pushed me every day to become a better player. Everyone supports everyone. Everyone wants everybody else to do well and get into a college. Now, it is my turn to help out others reach their goal.”

To wrap things up, Addesa wanted to also share his excitement for DiMascolo.

“When Michael arrived he had been misled and he had totally lost all of his self-confidence," said Addesa. "Within our Railers format, each player gains from his teammates, our coaching staff and management, tremendous self belief, and a little at a time Michael grew to the necessary height of self-confidence one needs to be able to go to an outstanding academic institution and play at a high level of hockey. On behalf of the Railers, I couldn’t be happier for Mike and his family of the opportunity he has earned for himself at Connecticut College where he will get to play in the very prestigious NESCAC conference.”
